I went February 7, 2008 and post anynomous because its quicker. First of all, if your a more experienced skier don't go here, it is a good beginner mountain because it is not very challenging, a good place to learn how to ski/board.It would probably be a good family resort, but the double black diamonds are like blue squares compared to Vermont slopes. When i went to blue mountain all the snow was machine made, no snow in the woods, and was groomed ok, if you want something of higher quality your gonna have to go somewhere else. The lines seemed short but it was on a Thursday when i went so i cant really judge that. I would give it a 3 out of 10 for trail toughness. Bring your own food or it will cost you just like any other place.

only posting anonymously because it is faster and easier. Went for first time on 2/24/08. went with new skiers was very disappointed that learners area was a hard walk across parking lot and inaccesible to any other lift. Also, very difficult to get to summit lodge. had promised nonskiing friends that they would be able to sit by fire, have a drink, and watch the skiiers.not true. valley lodge is dark, dingy, and no bar. didn't find out till much later that it was possible to drive up to summit lodge. And that is where they have the live music! Too hard for inexperinced skiiers to reach! mountain was nice, but bear creek is just easier navigation, less line, better amenities. You choose.

I skied at Blue Mountain on Saturday, 2/22. They had gotten about six inches of snow the day before. I arrived early and conditions were very good. The trails were well groomed with the exception of Upper/Lower Switchback which were icy. Blue Mountain has some nice cruising trails and a few difficult black & double black diamond trails. By about noon, lift lines were very long and the trails were beginning to get "skiied off."

My advice is to arrive early before the big crowds and the icy conditions.

This review is based solely on PA/Pocono skiing. I am not stacking Blue MT up to any resort in VT or the West Coast.

That being said:

I really liked Blue Mt. I was a little hesitant because of all the reviews mentioning ice--but when I went , I did not encounter any--and this was a day after a rain/sleet storm.

The trails are very wide which I like, there is some variety, the lodge is alright, and the rental process is organized and neat.

Friends who didn't want to ski enjoyed the tubing park--and it was nice that it was on the mountain. If I can't get up to VT--Blue Mountain would probably be my first choice for PA skiing.

Looks like the forecast is calling for another great weekend at Blue. Next week is going to be the best of the year, they will be laying down a lot of snow over this cold streak. Cant wait.

50 + Snowboarder with a season pass: Blue Mountain is a mix of good news bad news. It’s close so lots of people can get to it, good and bad news. The best time on the weekends is from 7:30 to about 10:00 in the mourning and after 3:30 in the afternoon. From 7:30 to about 9:30 you can just about ski onto the lift. People who work their say Monday is the best day to go, they re-groom the whole mountain Sunday night. The new in 07, six person high speed lift has eliminated the really long lines. Saturday afternoon I had to wait less than ten minutes. The bad new all those people are now on the hill. The big crowds on the weekend will chew through well groomed trails by 11:00am, but if the weather is above freezing the ice, (this is the Pocono’s), will soften up in the afternoon.
If it is your first time skiing or boarding don’t bother with the whole mountain lift ticket, the ski school hill will be enough. Unless your “friend” is a certified instructor take a lesson from the school, there is a reason for the helicopter pad at the bottom of the hill.
I try to board on the trails with the best conditions regardless of the rating. Blue grooms the trails during the day so keep your eye out for the fresh groomed trails. If you like terrain parks, I like the fact that they have a beginner, intermediate and advanced parks.
As far as this ski area having great conditions and that ski area sucks; I have found the big crowds can pretty much chew up any of the popular and easy to get to mountains in the Pocono’s. If the temperatures were in the teens the night before, they will all make snow and the conditions will be ok. A week of nights in the teens and the conditions will be a good as they get.
My favorite day, Super Bowl Sunday, the place is empty by noon. Ski or ride like crazy until 4:00 or so then head to your bowl party.

Took my two kids (age 9,12) who are new to skiing. Bought the All mountain Package $70 (all mtn ticket 8am-10pm,rental,lesson) Highly Recommended! (Don't buy the new skier package the kids will be bored of the bunny hills in two hours.) My kids got one on one training with a qualified instructor for one hour (like private lesson) for half the cost. By the end of the day they were sking Burma Trail and Paradise (green) very efficiently. The snow was nice to the night when it started to turn icy. By then they were worn out. Suggestion: go on a weekday (we went Friday). Absolutely no wait time and plenty of instructors waiting to teach kids. Lower lodge was packed. We always bring lunch (cafeteria is expensive with greasy food - hot dogs, burgers, fries). They should expand the lower lodge with more tables, fireplace, better food. Not a lodge feel. Overall had a wonderful day at Blue mountain. Would go again.

Conditions on Thursday and Friday have not been that great. Paradise had huge sections of ice on both days. On Friday, the packed powder only lasted about an hour and then turned into sugar and skied off icy patches. Blue still needs to get their snowmaking and grooming perfected. Occasionally you will have a day were everything is well groomed cordoroy, but usually, only a few trails have great conditions, and the rest have golf ball snow, ruts, hard pack, or a coat of sticky blown snow that was left on the trails to help cover up the ice below.
