I have been skiing at Blue Knob all my life. I live only 30 minutes from the mountain. The conditions are usually pretty good, but sometimes it can become very "firm" as us ski racers like to call it. The terrain is great, and has a variety of difficulties of slopes. Blue Knob also has some of the steepest Terrain in Pennsylvania. The slopes here are also fairly long for East Coast mountains.

Recomended slopes: Extrovert, Stembogan, ditch glades (if there's snow).

The management at Blue Knob isn't the greatest I must admitt, sometimes you'll get up there and they only have one lift running because they are short staffed and the liftys just wont show up. The lodge is also outdated and could use renovating.

Overall Blue Knob is a skiers mountain and does not have the 'extras' as some other mountains such as Seven Springs. So if you are looking for great terrain, little to no lift lines and a laid back envirnment Blue Knob is the mountain for you!!

BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE BLUE KNOB "BACK COUNTRY" Read below

Blue Knob also offers trails that are not on the trail map, which when there is snow are pretty good. One of them is called 'Blue Trail' its off the side of Jack Rabbit on the skiers left. Another trail is called 'The Cheetah' it is located right before 'The Ditch Glades' and offers some pretty steep terrain. Just ask the locals if you are new to the mountain about these trails because they are well known, but not marked.

Sunday March 2nd I took my camera up and decided to take some pictures, be sure to check them out!

I started skiing at Blue Knob back in the 1970's.

It gets COLD! And mist clouds are very common over the mountain in the late season.

As other have said, the lifts are slow... 15 minutes from bottom to top. But lift lines are minimal, even at peak times.

The lodge bites... if you are comparing it to a Colorado resort it would not even qualify as a lodge. But it is a place to get some simple food, a drink, warm up, and head back out to the slopes.

The one thing that Blue Knob is PERFECT for is skiing. Nice long runs... some of them over a mile long. Long vertical drop so even the diamond and double diamond slopes have significant length. If you want short little runs, time to socialize in a lift line, and more "atmosphere", then go to Seven Springs. If you just want to fly down a mountain over and over and enjoy skiing, Blue Knob is about the best place in the Mid-Atlantic to do it.

We love Blue Knob. Yes, it might be bitter cold, blow you down windy, can get kind of icy (on top) but there are never lift lines. Upper and Lower Mambo give you a great relaxing 1 mile run if you just want to take an easy run. Plus, there are plenty of other runs that will sufice all other ski abilities. The lodge is a bit dated and the food is not too great. Unless of course you get the, carved in front of you, Turkey dinner they serve for lunch in the bar for like 8 bucks. The hospitality is always friendly. We have stayed on the mountain the past 2 ski seasons, with kids - it's a great weekend getaway(from the DC area). We have also gone without the kids and hung out at the bar in Alpine Village - the food there was good & reasonably priced, but it did get busy and packed. If you want the glitz and glamor...go to Seven Springs!

I had my first trip to Blue Knob over presidents day weekend (Feb 15-17, 2008). There was powder snow covering most of the slopes, but there were a few icy patches on some of the trail bends and especially on the black diamonds. They did a good job grooming most of the trails but by the end of the day the icy patches were exposed and made skiing more difficult. They got 10 inches of snow the day before we arrived but even with it, there were still icy patches and a few bare spots on the black diamonds. All green and blue trails were pretty good for the most part.

The lodge is pretty dated and the lifts run a little slow but there was hardly ever a wait, and if there was, it was never more then a minute or two. I have skied at other places and for an east coast resort, it was pretty good. I would definitely recommend the resort!

Went to IUP last year so the Knob was my "home" mountain. Must say that I can't get enough of it. It has plenty of vertical for those of you who keep track of that. The terrain is easily the best in PA. I have skied almost every mountain in PA and I can easily say that the double diamonds here, are actually double diamonds. They don't give them that rating for no reason. They have the only bowl(that i know of) in PA. And when there is enough snow, the glades are amazing. The mountain is never crowded, and the people are very friendly.

Now on to the negatives. #1 The snow making is not that great. The best time to hit this place is later in the year when they have received a good amount of snow. #2 They have no high speed lift. The chairs are terribly slow, so if you are skiing top to bottom, prepare to get chilly on the lift. #3 Not that it bothers me cause I don't use it but the lodge is very small and outdated. There is nothing. Just skiing. #4 Park rats need not apply. They can barely say they have a park cause it is terrible.

One other thing to keep in mind, it gets very windy and cold. So dress warm.

Visited Blue Knob for the first time over Christmas and we were really pleased. Only a few trails open but the snow was good and well groomed. Can't wait for the rest of the trails to open. The long trails and resonable prices make this resort worth the drive. Overall atmosphere is 'dated' but maintained. Friendly staff and locals.

The first time ever i set foot in a ski boot, steped into a pair of skis was 20 years past. That place was Blue Knob, never heard of it till then and since then having visited several other places i always have had and never will loose my admiration for this exceptional ski experience. If you are the kind of person that needs all the bells & whistles of a full blown ski resort ie: apre's ski, night life, shopping ect. this probably isn't the place for you ( which by the way IS one of the most attractive qualities for me ) If however you are in need of some peace of mind while enjoying our favorite winter activity then this is where you need to be. I cannot say enough good about the entire Blue Knob experience from the variety of terrain to the attitude and laid back disposition of the people both operating and visiting. Yes its true the snow conditions are not always good however when they are i will drive right past the Springs and spend 1 more hour in the ski transport every time. Brian~Thinks about snow even in the summer !!!

Been skiing at Blue Knob 30+ years you never know what to expect. The mountain tends to get icey quite often due to the lay of the land and our moderating winters. Snow making has improved over the past ten years, still plenty of room for improvement. Hope you are going to ski or board because the so called "lodge" is nothing to speak of. I would recommend the skiing atleast once on a perfect day, otherwise dress "very" warm and enjoy the view at the top of the mountain.

I have been to blue knob twice. Last year it was icy... and I loved it. This year was a powder day... and it was awesome (for PA). Check out Stembogan if you get there. Oh yeah, and the ditch glades.

Its really the only resort in PA with any significant character. Its got the only bowl or glades in the state. To those who complain they aren't open enough... its in Pennsylvania. We take what we can get. Oh, its got the most double black terrain in the state too.

If you live in PA or south, you need to check this place out.
