Taking into account that the resort is in central Pennsylvania, and the only place where many people will be able to ski on a regular basis, ski roundtop offers an excellent variety of trails in good condition. I started skiing a few years ago through my high school's ski club. Since then I have visited a variety of other resorts throughout the state and must say that I have never felt that I was missing out on something when I came back to roundtop. At many of the larger resorts you can easily wait 10-15min just to get on the lift. granted, you may get an extra 2-400 vertical feet, but when you take into account the amount of time you are not skiing, i find that I actually do less skiing than at roundtop. afterall, an extra 2-400vert ft does not provide much more of a thrill or challenge. roundtop may not have very many slopes, but they do cover a wide range of difficulties which can provide challenges for beginners all the way up to advanced skiers. The snow conditions (at least at night, when i go) are usually quite firm to icy. you can decide whether this is a good thing or not, but it can provide quite a ride if you know how to use your edges, and if they are kept sharp. I have taken many group lessons and almost all have been helpful. The beginner lessons are slow due to the number of people, but the more advanced lessons usually only have under 5 students and quite often only 1 or 2. This provides an excellent way to improve your skiing on all kinds of terrain. I have leaned how to ski from my first time to my current advanced level from the instructors at the mountain and now never feel uncomfortable on any terrain at any resort which I have visited with the skills which I have learned at roundtop. obviously, this is not the resort, or area of the country for that matter to learn how to ski powder. as long as you leave your powder skis at home and bring your carver/slalom ski, you will have a blast. If you know of a better place to ski within a reasonable drive of harrisburg, please let me know because I have not found one.

I usually ski alone on school nights, so the lack of social life does not bother me. As stated before the food is average, but do your body a favor and pack a healthy meal and you will be better off in terms of money in your pocket, quality of food, and a better skiing experience.

I ski between 30 and 50 days per season, barring injuries, of which 25-45 are spent at roundtop after school from 4-10pm.

Roundtop is only 20 minutes away. It is a family friendly ski area, the staff is always helpful and courteous. The condidtions are great after a natural snow, or good snowmaking weather - the early bird gets the best snow - often gets icy by evening.

The lodge area is subpar but we usually buy the 4 hour flex ticket, unlike other resorts the flex tickets are available on weekends.

Bottom line a great value for families or those just beginning to ski/board or those working to improve the abilities.

I visit about once a week and think it is a good place for beginners. Most of the mountian is covered with manmade snow throughout the season. The slopes are groomed daily. Their web site is very helpful and easy to use. The ski check is convient but the food in the lodge is expensive.

Roundtop is typically icy. Goes with the teratory. The snow making is great. They do take good care the slopes with grooming. Local weather conditions however reduce the granular stuff to ice. For good snow conditions wait for the day after a natural snow or go somewhere else. No tavern at any ski resort is a disadvantage. The lodge reminds you of a ice scateing rink more than a ski lodge. Poor food "Fast Food Style" and cafeteria style service at a high price. Somewhat rinky-dink. There is something for the more advanced skiers however don't expect it to be good conditions on the advanced slopes all the time. For this area it is OK. If you are used to the far north or west you will be disapointed.

Ski Roundtop is a very nice and friendly place to ski. It is more family oriented than a lot of places I've seen. My six year old grandaughter was treated exceptionally well during her lessons and was having fun afterward and was able to ski downhill herself. I have skied there many times during the past few years and have had very few gripes with the place. The person who seemed to post nothing but negative about this place needs to go someplace else to ski and stay there, especially if he doesn't want beginners around. If he's a pro, he needs to go over to the Swiss Alps or someplace like that. The slopes can be a little icy at times, but so have other slopes at other ski resorts. The food prices are no more expensive than others I've been to also. We aren't blessed with 5 or 6 feet of snow in this area every year, so the machines have to make most of what is there. The new snow machines they bought seem to be working much faster and producing a much better quality of snow. In my opinion it is a wonderful place to learn to ski. It also is a great place to get some good exercise for those who want to have some fun at the same time.

I want to complement Roundtop on their website design. I was particularly impressed with their interactive trail map that showed clearly which trails were open when we were trying to decide where to go for a day trip on 12/21/07. Roundtop's website had far more useful information than I found at either the Liberty or Whitetail websites.

While at Roundtop my daughter and I both took advantage of advance level lessons for $10, a pre-season special. Both of our classes lasted for 1 1/2 hours and our instructors, Rich (ski) and Steve (snowboard) were excellent. I was one of two in my class and my daughter was the only person in her class.

Only one terrain park was open but overall trail conditions on 12/21/07 were excellent!

Regarding previous comment on Ramrod and Gun Barrel trails, I have skied Roundtop several times a year for the past 7 years and always check conditions before I go. I have found these two trails to be open when I go after mid January and the overall trail conditions on the mountain to have been excellent. For a small area, Roundtop offers a lot of terrain variety and lots of fun!

I have to disagree with jd. Although Roundtop has had poor snowmaking conditions the past few years, the folks that do the grooming there are true professionals. I have skied there consistently for over 10 years. The staff is exceptional. They have phenominial ski instructors, some who have been nationally recognized. Their children's instructor staff is some of the best on the east coast.
The experience you have skiing has a lot to do with the attitude you arrive with. If you are looking for a family friendly resort that is going to cater to that group, Roundtop is the place to come back to year after year.

This hill has the consistently worst snow and grooming I've ever had to deal with. It attracts extreme novices and people who think they are a lot better than they are in the lousy terrain parks. I see bad wipe-outs every time I go. The two backside double-blacks are almost never open and if they are, they are in terrible shape with ice and rocks. The lodge smells of mildew, has terrible food, and the access roads are in bad shape. Too many stoned, drunk teenagers frequent the slopes and cut off people all the time. I was bought a season pass and rarely used -- even days when it snowed, they did not groom so tons of mushy bumps with icy valleys inbetween. I took a lesson with oen guy who was a terrible skiier and a worse teacher.

It's a great place for beginners. This is where I spend most of my boarding time and this is only my 2nd year of boardin. The staff is friendly for the most part.

Roundtop offers the opportunity for me to get some turns in just about everyday around my schedule. Flex tickets are the best idea ever! They have the best snow aroundand a nice mix of slope ability levels. They have really stepped up in the parks in the last few years.
