Meadows is the best place to ski on hood. it's terrain is unbeliveable if you know where to look. this year I have made it up 50+ times and have not been bored yet. heather canyon and the privte reserve are great for experts and if you want to aviod crowds go there, especally the privte reserve, you will be the only one there. Explore the trees, there is a ton of unmarked and untracked runs trough trees off mountain hood express. Go to Clark canyon, it is hard to get to, being it's on the other side of heather canyon, but you will be rewarded. to get there, stay left when skiing A-zone or up. Just aviod the Lodge, it is over price, to many people and the employes are inproperly trained.
I used to LOVE meadows when I was little and first started to snowbord. Then has it became more into a resort the people going up boarding and skiing start to become realllly mean. A ski hit me (on purpose) waved then skied off. Almost broke my neck. Another time I had broken my knee and NOT ONE PERSON stopped to help. For 30 MINS!! Then I finally saw a ski patrol person and he helped me. I would NOT going to meadows. Go to ski bowl if they have snow the people who work there and go boarding or skiing there are soooo much nicer! I bruised my knee bone the first of the seaso and EVERYONE stopped to help. Plus it's not at crowded.
I love meadows as do my kids. My kids are 15,16 and 19. The guest experience has been tremendous this year as has the snow. Meadows has created a lifetime of unforgettable memories for us. The riding has been spectacular and we look forward to attending Vegetate '08! So, who is going? http://www.skihood.com/events/Vegetate08/
I've lived in the NW my whole life and have been skiing hood for over 20 years. Meadows use to be good when I didn't know any better but once I've been to Tahoe and Whistler you can really recognize how Crappy meadows is! let me tell you why this place sucks first I've never seen a good park come out of meadows my 3 year old nephew can do better with his beach bucket and sand rack. The park is always placed in hard to get to places. Second, the park is always closed for all the high school competitions every weekend I go which is every weekend the park is occupied by bus loads of high schoolers so you can't even get to ride the park if you wanted to!! third, they over sold the season passes so the place is ridiculous packed full of gapers that need to learn mountain etiquette . I'll be getting my pass at t-line next year.

I've skied regularly at Mt. Hood Meadows since 1995.
Great terrain with super deep snowpacks (most years), phenomenal views on clear days. Powder here is rarely of the quality of the Rockies, usually much more water content, but lots of fun. Lately the grooming doesn't seem as zealous as in years past, leaving some slopes with moguls to play on.
I really wish the management would get its act together when it comes to opening terrain and lifts more quickly after a fresh dump of the white stuff. Heather Canyon is their best terrain if you like big steeps, but it seems to take them forever to open it. Their highest lift, Cascade Express, has been painfully slow to open almost every time I've been this year.
If you ever have to park in the Annex parking lot, be ready for a long time between lining up for the shuttle bus and getting to the main lodge. The buses don't have exterior racks for skis and boards so everyone gets on the bus hefting all their equipment. Instead of seating people from back to front, people pile up in this huge bottleneck by everyone grabbing the first available seat while trying to squeeze their gear into it with them. Then sometimes the bus can't easily make the turns around parked cars because of the way the parking staff directed parking. I've seen this one mile shuttle take almost an hour from start of boarding to arrival at the lodge. There's no excuse for this.
Also, if you ever buy a season pass from them online, print out everything including the confirmation email. I just printed out the web page that has a button on it that says "Print this Page" and says "Please print this page and present as confirmation to pick up your pass". When I presented this to a worker at a ticket window he told me that I printed the wrong page, even though my page says that it's the confirmation page. After several minutes of arguing, because I wasn't about to wait in another line for 20 minutes, his boss gave me a day pass and apologized for the problem. But what a hassle!
Bottom line is that Mt. Hood Meadows has the best variety of terrain on Mt. Hood, but after 40 years of running a ski resort they still can't figure out how to run it well.
This is the first time I have purchased a season's pass for my family. I love the hill for its short lift lines and friendly service from the staff. Standing in the cold can't be fun, but the lift operators are always great. My one beef, though, is a pretty serious one, and addressed by other reviewers. There is very little ski patrol presence on this hill. I've boarded and skied in a few places, and Meadows has the least safety I've ever seen. Lots of out-of-control riders (the majority?!) and nothing being done about it. I've been going up this year for a couple of months, and for the last month I haven't seen even one patroller. It seemed as if the riders were actually aiming for my little kids, especially when they fell. I think the problem is these riders (a lot of them!) are actually way beyond their skill level with no finesse. What happens here is that they are looking at you thinking they want to avoid you, but when you're out of control you tend to go where you're looking, so you end up aiming for what you intend to avoid.
Safety on the slopes at this hill is preached (lots of signs) but pretty much non-existent. Sadly, I think a death (or several) will be necessary before anything is done, and a problem easily fixed (volunteer ski patrol, anyone? Just give out a free season's pass to qualified individuals and have the instructors keep a heads up.) Other than that, I love my hill, and so does my family.
I visited Meadows in April and it started out blue sky and empty!. It takes no time at all from Hood River and was easy to find. All the Employees were polite and friendly which always makes a good impression. As the day progressed it became overcast and windy which got cold on Cascade Express (the top lift) so I stayed on the lower mountain. Heather Canyon was the best Bowl area I have ever gone on in my life. The afternoon was not the best, as it warmed up and the snow became extremely slow. Flat runs were almost impossible by Heather Canyon stayed awsome. By the end of the day it started to rain.
It was spring and conditions can be changeing fast there but the tickets were not overpriced and I would recommend going there on a spring day because there were NO lift lines all day.

I've had a Meadows season pass for 4 years and have ridden at several resorts in Colorado, Utah, Washington, Michigan and Missouri (yep, Missouri). If you just absolutely can't deal with weekend lift lines, take a trip to a hill in Missouri, Iowa or Indiana. If however you have ever ridden at any of the popular resorts in CO, UT, WA or OR during peak days, you probably won't think the lift lines are too bad at Meadows.
The terrain at Meadows is stupendous. Great trees, steeps and in bounds backcountry riding (Heather Canyon). Heather is often slow to open, but it's typically a very justified delay since this terrain requires quite a bit of avalanche control.
Warning: Mt. Hood Meadows is in the business of making money, I repeat, this business that goes by the name of Mt. Hood Meadows is interested in turning a profit. Please post back if you know of a good non-profit resort.
Sure there may be an occasional punk on skis smoking in the lift line, but people are usually quick to inform them of the no smoking policy and all is well. No doubt, there may also be a few 4 letter words dropped now and again by skiers and boarders dropping off big hits or describing in the lift line the face shots they were just pummeled with down O-Ring but sometimes you just have to put up with unfiltered passion on a great day.
Overall, Meadows is a great resort that Portlanders are lucky to have. There is no village here and the lodge isn't necessarily memorable but it serves it's purpose just fine. Food and drinks are more expensive here than in the city but that is to be expected at any resort. At least you can get an excellent Oregon brew for the taxed price. Get there early and you won't have any problems with parking on peak days. If coming from Portland, take the I-84 route through Hood River in order to avoid some of the craziness that comes with driving with the masses through Government Camp. Hood River is also a great town to stop in at on your way down the mountain for drinks and food.
The snow is sometimes quite heavy compared to the champagne in CO and UT, but once you figure it out it's not at all a bad trade off for getting to be in quite possibly the most beautiful region in the country.

Despite well documented lack of parking in the Main Lot, there is an RV campground in the middle that rivals the infield at the Indy 500. I am also noticing less visible ski patrol and less helpful lift operators than in previous years. I think this is indirectly encouraging some problems with aggressive/anti-social behavior by a few who have chosen not to learn/respect the rules. I think there is a real safety issue on some of the beginner/intermediate runs with out of control posers. There was a 10 year old girl who had her leg broken by a 20-something boarder last weekend while I was there; I point this out as a real example, but problems exist with both boarders and skiiers.

Meadows is a joke. Although the do have the best terrain on mt.hood, the "resort" that they call themselves is a pathetic attempt.
Almost everyday, you see people smoking and drinking in the lift lines, and yelling obscene language at the top of their lungs. While this is going on, meadows has the idea that its not their problem.
The lifts stop frequently because the lift operators aren't paying attention while inexperience skiers or boarders need aid. It seems like meadows is only out to steal your money.
if you wan to buy yourself burger, fries, and a drink, plan on spending around 13 bucks for a burger with less than a quarter pound of meat, and a tea cup full of fries!
When you go to meadows resort page, you will be sure to find out dated information, and lies about the amount of snow they have, and other information.
When checking passes, meadows is more interested in making sure you have your pass then actually loading the lift. As many as five empty chairs go by, as the ignorant employees check and re-check passes.
Many people go to meadows and love it simply because they havn't been to real resorts, or don't go up three days a week for the winter. If meadows wants to call themselves a resort, then they need to buck up, and start taking on the responsibilities, instead of being all talk and no game.
