We love Bristol Mountain. We have 3 kids ,ages 8,7 and 5,who have learned to ski there. The children's ski school is wonderful. Mary goes way beyond the call of duty whenever she can to help us in any way. We all love it! We do have a couple of suggestions:

Over the years, the timing of the children's lessions has changed making it much more difficult for adults to have a nice ski day. Previously, we could drop our kids off in ski school for the morning or until 2:30 or 3. Now the lessons are short (1.5 hours) and the lessons are not linked so we must come back in and get our kids and then wait for an hour and then take them back to class...the other way was MUCH BETTER for the parents as we actually could ski a couple of hours rather than a couple of runs before going back in.

Although the staff really tries to be efficient, it appears that the computer system is unduly burdensome and it takes forever to check in...even if we have been there for several days!!! Please consider offering several day tickets and lessons as it would greatly streamline the process. Also, we rent equipment...please offer multiday packages for equipment too...it just wastes everyone's time to go through the burdensome computer process daily.

Finally, please consider offering some healthier foods in the restaurants ( a good salad bar, healthy sandwiches, better soups and yogurts) and please start the lunch warm food menu earlier as kids trying to make the 11:30 class can't even order warm food in the ski school lodge til 11 am and it often takes 10 or 15 minutes to get it. Thanks!!!!

I took my kids there for midwinter break (stayed in Monier Manor B&B in Naples, NY. Great B&B!). They skied there for three days. They really enjoyed the slopes and even skied some black and and one double black diamond. I would definitely recommend this ski resort. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. They enjoyed the runs and can't wait to ski again when we visit my parents who live in Naples.

However, there were two disadvantages there (I told them on a comment card too). Even though I rented the all day through close pass for three days for them, I had to rent the equipment by the day. I paid up front so that I didn't have to stand in the line to pay every day (don't lose the slips either or you'll have to pay again). We did have to pick up the equipment everyday. There was no assurance that they would receive the same boots either. It really slowed one of my sons down every day due to this fact (one day they gave him wet boots). I think it was unfortunate that they didn't have a special area to put at least the boots every night so that they could have the same ones. My kids have skied at other ski resorts (in NM, mainly Taos. We live in OKC) and all of them have either allowed us to take the equipment with us or store it for us each night.

The other disadvantage is that since they are small, they don't have any warming stations on the mountain. One of the days was bitterly cold. They decided to go on a long run (two miles) and had to race down the mountain at one point since their hands were so numb by the time they were part way down. I realize that Bristol Mountain is small, so having a warming station may not be financially possible. Also, since they have only skied there twice before, and it wasn't too cold then, it may not get cold often enough to warrant a building like that.

All in all, it really is a great place beside the two annoyances. My boys are 14 years old and 10 years old. I (my husband couldn't come) felt comfortable letting them ski together by themselves. My parents and I sat in the same place every day in one of the two lodges (food). They came and checked in when they were cold, hungry and/or tired. I doubt that I'd let them ski by themselves at a larger ski resort.

I didn't rate terrain park or apres ski since I don't know what that means.

Bristol has the vertical that Holiday lacks. Rocket and Meteor were a lot more challenging when I was a kid in the 70's but they shaved it off (and widened Meteor) mainly because crowds would gather and tykes like me would scare off the casual crowd and rip it. It's too bad. With todays advanced grooming and snow making the the old steep part at Rocket would be much more manageable. Back then you'd bounce off the tops to avoid ice and rocks.

There's only a few hills in Western New York that could approach 1,000 vertical and Bristol tops that and more. Nearby Hunt Hollow, a private club, has some good vertical and much better steeps. For boarders however I'd imagine that Bristol is pretty awesome. The terrain suits them.

Good mountain, but very expensive for what you get, $51 for a 8 hour pass is too much. Almost every time i have been there multiple hills are closed for racing or training or other things. This usually takes away good trails too.

Best bump in western NY. Enough challenging terrrain to keep things interesting but plenty of easy terrain for novices. A lot of improvements in the last few years. Bonus--night skiing.

Really good hill, lift lines could be slow, but the lifts were very fast. Wide variety of hills accomadate beginner to expert skiers.

Small resort but is rapidly building out to challenge Holiday Valley for top spot in Western New York. The verticle drop is the best aspect of the resort with over 1200 feet of skiable terrain. That's double what most resorts in the region can claim. It's still short on amenities like bars, lodging, stores, restaurants, etc. Rapidly become one of the regions best though.
