I have visited each of the four local mountains a few times each this winter, and Mount Peter is by far my favorite. They always seem to have more snow than everyone else, even the bigger mountains, and even on the busy days I can always manage to find a trail that does not have too much traffic. They have a terrain park for kids, a beginners area, and even a great place outside to eat on weekends. I recommend it for beginners and families; and anyone who just wants good snow.

I went to Mt. Peter this past weekend (I know, one of the million people that decide to go skiing on a holiday), and put my 3 year old daughter in their "Pete's Pals" program. It was great; I got to ski a few hours while my daughter learned how to make a "pizza" with her skis. She loved it. Their trails are all open and I would not have expected as much snow as they had on them. They had a small terrain park that was packed with kids, and even though it was busy, everyone was really nice. We had a great time and will definetly go back.

I've been there twice this year and both times had a great time. Very affordable. Saturday night they have 2 for 1 lift tickets. Me and my daughter skied for 15 bucks for the night. Not the biggest but I'm not an expert skier so this suites me just fine. Staff and especially ski patrol very friendly.
Highly recommend to a beginner or intermediate skier that doesn't want to travel to the Catskills.

Highly recommend to a family with little ones.

We tried Mt. Peter for the first time last year. Our friend recommended it. After the season, we decided to purchase the seanson pass for 07-08. Yes - it is a smaller mountain with shorter trails, but it is perfect for the kids and family. My daughter, who is now six learned to ski there last year and my son, who is three and half is learning this year. The whole setting is very intimate that the kids are not overwhelmed. The snow making is quite impressive as well. Even after the warm weather and rain, the place somehow always managed to have decent amount of snow on the ground. The staff is usually very friendly and polite. Driving is quite convenient with very little traffic. I strongly recommend this place to families with young children and/or beginners.

I have ridden at Mt Peter at least once every season for 3 years so I will give you an all around review of my experiences there. This is a small family run mountain. It is the oldest continually operational ski area in New York. It is staffed by local high school kids and adults and is very family friendly. They pride themselves in that. Due to adverse weather conditions, the quality of the snow there is not always great, but they do the best they can to make it ski and rideable. They are usually open with more trails than other local slopes or open when the others are not. The staff is, for the most part, helpful and friendly. They will open up the retail shop for someone even after hours and are very accomidating to their customers. Over all, they are not a top notch ski area, but for local residents and some weekenders, they are better than the alternative. Hours of traveling, long lines, and over crowded, over priced resorts.

We went there today with two young children because we expected Mt. Peter to be easy. Well the hills are short alright, and staff are friendly. But lines are long and facilities are limited. We figured that the free class is worth what you pay for, so we bought two one hour classes for our children. My daughter was assigned to a kid barely 16 who had no idea how to get her started (No, they don't have the magic carpet here!). After half an hour of wasting her time, his boss passed by and noticed the snafu and shouted "this is a private lesson, take her up the lift!".
It was a warm day, so I let them pass on the poor quality of the ice underneath.
On the positive side the parking is right next to the slopes, and as I said the staff are doing their best making do with what they have at hand.
If you are local, want very short hills, and don't need to rely on slope facilities (restaurant, school, ...) this is for you.

I went to Mt. Peter on Saturday and the whole mountain was open, except for the one trail that goes off in the woods. Pretty good considering their competition is barely open. Everything was great; A ++ review.

It is Nov 24th and they are already making snow. I drove by last night and I saw the guns from the top of the mtn.
I buy a season pass there every year and I love it. It might not be the biggest mountain in the area but they always have snow and the staff is the nicest around. Best possible choice for local skiing.
Mt. Peter is the best place to go for families and young kids - I learned how to ski there when I was young and my son learned in their after school program last year. We love it there!

MT.peter is great I went there with my friend and we went on the black dimond, the terran park, and the other runs. The lifts are really god too. they are not too high and are esey to get off. The only draw back is that the cheak in is kind of long but it is really worth it. It is also close to me and they make the snow all year round exept for summer. The slopes are also in very good shape even if we just had warm weather. I recomend the place to any body.

We were at Mount Peter today and it was fabulous! They are the only mountain in the area that is still making snow and let me tell you, the snow was perfect!!!! The staff was very friendly and helpful. My two kids and I took the day and skied the entire afternoon. I am so happy that we decided to be Mt. Peter customers, they really know how to keep the mountain in great shape, even after the warm weather we have had. This place is great for families. I recommend it to anyone.
