Mount rose is awesome. I only live 11.5 miles away from the lift, I have had a pass at Mt Rose the past 3 years, I have never been anywhere else. I have heard from others that "The Chutes" rival any terrian in the area, and everytime I enter through one of those gates, I have no desire to go anywhere else. If you like leisurely riding/skiing Mt Rose is the place for you, they also have challenging terrain that will make even the most seasoned skier think twice! Mt. Rose is great!!!

Spoiled, pampered skiers must stay away, as this is not the resort for you. You're much better off at Heavenly, Northstar or Squaw paying outrageous ticket prices for mediocre skiing. Mt Rose can be very windy and cold. Lifts shut down at the drop of a hat or helmut. There is no warming hut at the top of the mountain, so be prepared to freeze your butt off. The chutes are way too difficult for over 90 percent of the skiers there, and you always hear the sounds of a helicopter taking some poor soul to Reno, to the emergency hospital. When busy, the parking lots are too small, and the lift lines can be up to a five minute wait.
But, if your looking for the most difficult, and challanging skiing in the West, then you've come to the right place. Check out their webpage for special ticket pricing.
I've been skiing Mt Rose for over 25 years, and it's easily the best place in the Tahoe region! (When conditions are good).

Unless it is a big snow season bring your rock skis Mt. Rose has very little snow making. If you expect to go there and bash moguls forget it the moguls are groomed as soon as they get good. The chutes are good but getting into them requires taking your equptment off and walking because the staff is to lazy to shovel a little snow on the entrances. They have the equiptment to make a half pipe but havn't had one for the last 4 years. If you like a family resort with groomers pay the $62 and go there.

My parents live in the Reno/Lake Tahoe area. This greatly improves my options when I come out west for a ski vacation. Even with all the greats like Squaw Valley, Northstar etc, etc. I always end up at Mt rose for the majority of my vacation. Unless your on the greens the lines are SHORT, and the lifts are FAST! The terrain is very nice. Everyone from the staff to the people on the mountain are always super friendly. No eliteism here.
My last trip was just this April. When everyone else was closing operation or charging big dollars for crappy snow. Mt Rose slashed their prices even more, and still had superior snow.
For those on vacation, why spend the money on an overpriced resort when you could just as easily stay in a Casino in Reno, and live it up for a lot less.
Mt. Rose will always be a little extra special to me.

Just learned to ski this year at Mt. Rose. It is excellent! Instructors were *great*, and the beginner area has some reasonably challenging areas, so it's easy to learn and get better on the green runs. The blue runs are great, too, and the views from the top of the mountain cannot be beat. The lifts to the top are fast, too! Lots of people on the weekends (mostly locals from Reno), few during the week, with good specials for discount lift tickets weekdays. Exceptionally friendly staff, and very helpful, too. There is more to this mountain than you might expect, and the Slide side has some great runs. The Chutes (from what my crazy ski friends tell me) are supposed to be some of the most challenging legal terrain in the country. They look pretty amazing... Because Mt. Rose is very close to Reno, proximity makes up for the lack of a really fancy lodge, since you can be in a casino in a swanky restaurant with great service about 30 minutes after skiing. Besides, who wants to pay fancy lodge/ski village prices? Enjoy this mountain---I sure did!!

I love this resort, I ave been to a couple others in Tahoe and I would have to say that I like this one the most. The thing I love the most is the panoramic views of just evrything. The Slide side has got to be one of the best sides for viewing places. The beginner trails were great for me, I learned how to snowboard on them so I would know that one. I have yet to have a mean comment from a lift operator, The Value Pass is the best thing they ever di because you just get out of your car and ride to the lift and your off. I enjoy this resort and you probably will too.:-)

Dec. 10 to 12, 2006. Girlfriend and I visited the resort. I hadn't been on the slopes since 9/11, she in about a year. We figured Monday would be a good day and it was great! No lines. We took 'group lessons' w/Davide. However, since we were the only two, it was more of a private lesson. Davide was very patient w/us and it paid off; we were skiing on our own in no time.
We loved the fact that there was practically no waiting for the lift chair. The runs weren't too crowded either. We'll definitely return on a weekday; have no idea what it is like on the weekend though. Next time, we'll take the 'rookie' lessons and have more fun.
Basically, it was like having the mountain to ourselves.
While the resort's 1200 acres and eight (6 aerial, 2 surface) lifts may not be at first glance as impressive as some nearby Tahoe Basin mega- resorts, Mt. Rose contains enough dandies and primal rushes to make for the most dolce of vitas. If there is a predominant geological statement to Mt. Rose that immediately captures the eye it's the Chutes. Towering over the Mount Rose Highway, and situated just under the resort's 9700-foot summit elevation, the Chutes reign supreme among all the left hooks that drop on the point of Rose's jaw. Rose's excellent beginner and novice area has been improved with 2 Wonder Carpets conveyor lifts.
Rose is one of our favorite ski areas. Ski the new glade area (if open). All the locals from Reno hang out here. It reminds of what ski areas use to be like. My kids really enjoy coming here. I enjoy the mountain and how close it is to RENO or the Hyatt.
