March 14,2008.Just returned from AF for spring break. Was our first trip with 4 children who have never been skiing. The skiing was awesome. Snowed 2 times while there. However, the resort itself was less desirable. After arriving early and waiting until 4 pm check-in there were still no rooms ready. There were at least a dozen people who could not get a room. One couple was compensated for their trouble, but we were told to bad so sad, "Check-in is anytime after 4" Yeah, and I was waiting in line at 4 and no room until 5:30. The staff at the registration desk was rude, untrained and unwilling to take time to accomodate the guest who have already fully paid when arriving "with no room ready." The packages of lift tickets..etc that I had purchased via online were supposed to be waiting at the desk... they were after the staff sent me on a goose chase to find them. He just didn't want to take the time to find it while he was checking me in "late". The rooms were large, but lamps were inoperable, as were the hair dryers in both the rooms I had paid for. There is no internet access in the rooms. Must sit in the lobby if you need your computer. Must have been half dozen people at a time everyday having trouble logging on. Standing at desk with their computers trying to get someone to help them. Big posters announce a major rennovation beginning Fall 2007.....Nothing has been rennovated. The hotel is old, and dirty. I will never stay at the resort again. We will find a condo next time. Thank goodness the snow was great and we enjoyed the slopes for our trip was saved only by this. The gameroom is disgustingly filthy, the change machines were inoperable. On a good note the resturants in the town served good food.
AF is great for skiing especially with children. Just don't stay in the resort until they rennovate, and hire some experienced management and staff.

I returned to AF this year and still find it to be the best place I have ever skied! The staff is friendly and helpful and the skiing is awesome!!They offer plenty for beginners and intermediates which was very accomodating to me and my best friend, but they also have some great aggressive runs which was right up my husbands alley.Hope to make it back again next year and take the kids!

Went to Angel Fire this last weekend (2-16-2008) and got involved with the free ski team from Twin Tip Nation. They took us on the backside of the mountain and in the park to show us some tricks and give pointers. What a great bunch of guys. If you ever have a chance to ski with them do so. Angel Fire hosted them and we are so pleased they did. Our kids loved them. Excellent family ski area, but their food service dept needs some serious overhaul.

Just got back from visiting AF for the first time. We have always skied in Colorado - Copper Mtn., Winter Park, Steamboat, Keystone, etc. We liked the small, quaint atmosphere of Angle Fire since we have a 4 & 8 year old. The terrain was better than expected, the staff was helpful and friendly, the snow was great. We skied Monday-Thursday and many times were the only ones on a given slope, skied right into the lift and went again. If you want to get in alot of vertical feet per day, go to the backside and ski the Southwest Flyer lift. Lots of positives about this trip and only 3 negatives - (1) lack of resturants (2) having to poke down "Headin' Home" to access all the good slopes on the frontside of the mountain (3) MUD in the parking lots, MUD at the skier drop off points, MUD almost everywhere - a little asphalt would greatly improve the base area.
Overall a great place to go for a family with small children. Just bring your mud boots & your own food to cook at the condo.

This will be the fourth season we have returned to AF. We make a 12 hour drive from Tatum, Texas which is so far east we are almost in Louisiana. My children absolutely love this trip. We have stayed in Taos and Angel Fire, and this year we will stay in Eagles Nest. Our ski trips to New Mexico are among our favorite vacation memories. I can't talk my children into skiing anywhere else. Don't get me wrong I love AF too, but I thought they might want to experience another mountain. Boy was I mistaken. As far as Cullen Bear and Leacy Paige are concerned there are no other mountains than Angel Fire! It's a great place to ski! I recommend it to anyone with children of any age.
This is a family friendly place with good ski school for beginners. If you ski a couple of times a year, like me, this place is great. If you want really great food head to Taos. The best kept secret to get there is Amtrak, get the economy sleeper, great for KC. Get off at Trinidad or Raton and get a rental car about a 2 hour drive. The resort NEVER mentions this and it's great especially in bad weather.

The condo was nice, but the altitude killed us, coming from below sea level! The only green back down to the base, Road Home, I believe, was tooooo long for us beginners!

We have come to Angel Fire at least once a year for the past 9 years - we love it. We are all intermediate skiers and like the long runs. There are a lot of nice houses and condos to rent (we like the Bunker House) that are close to the resort. I just wish there was more good food.

Angel Fire is a great ski resort for families with children. I have been to several NM ski resorts and find that Angel Fire is definitely the best! Lift operators are friendly and helpful with young children. Definitely New Mexico's top ski resort!
