I love Hidden Valley and would recommend it to families, beginners, and anyone from the NYC or Long Island area that wants to ski close by. It only takes us 1 1/2 hours from the middle of Long Island to get there. I am not a great skier, and I have found the beginner lift easy to get on. It moves slowly enough for me to get into position. The attendants on the lifts are great. The beginner area is long enough to not be boring. I have skied on the intermediate slope and found one section a little too much of a challenge. If you are a really advanced skier I think this resort might be a bit small for you, with not enough variety, but everyone else should have plenty to do. Another important thing is that its not crowded and has a nice lodge with a good view of the mountain. Over the years my kids and many of their friends have learned to ski here. It's well worth a visit.
I had a great time at Hidden Valley. Very reasonable lift ticket prices, staff was friendly. Great place for small children to learn. For a down home nice skking day Hidden Valley is A1.

I was skiing there durig regular weekday. It is great to have place like this in the shadow of nearby Mountain Creek. It is inexpensive ($19 for adult full weekday ticket from 9:00am to 5:00pm) in the middle of the season. Trails were well taken care of, personnel frendly. Rental equipment was in a good condition ( Not smelly like nearby Mountain Creek Boots). What is also important there was no lines to the lifts and trails were scarsly populated so I was able to ski in great comfort. Dispite it is not big resort with the highest peaks and longest trail I will definietly come back there.

While on vacation, I thought it would be a good idea to take my son snowboarding for the first time. I scheduled a lesson at Hidden Valley. The staff in the lodge were great, very curtious. I did not ski and stayed inside the lodge, which was very comfortable. The food was a little dry but reasonably priced. My son loved snowboarding, I know he will talk about it for years to come. The instructor in the morning was great and very patient. Howver, one thing that did bother me was the board instructor in the afternoon, I did not like some of the comments he was making about my son, I found it rude and inappropriate. If he caught on to what he was saying it could have ruined his experience forever.

Hidden Valley is a great choice for a family ski trip. Sure, it's small, it's lifts are slow, it's lodge is minimal. But the trails provide a good range of skill levels, grooming is good, and best of all it's uncrowded even on weekends. When Mountain Creek is a madhouse Hidden Valley has almost no lines. I've been there on weekdays when at first I thought it was closed, there were so few cars there. It's a friendly and low-key ski area.
I think as far as New Jersey goes (my home state) this mountain is the greatest most friendly place to go. If your looking for a place to take your wife for a quiet and relazing small mountain experience, no need to go to pa, come to mountain creek. Take it from me, a ski instructor at Killington in VT. you need not look far for small mountain family skiing. Pico in VT may be just that, but save the gas....not to mention, gas is causing the winters to decrease (co2 in the atmosphere the green house effect)
