I went to wolf ridge with my family and some close family friends. All staff were nice and helpful. The slopes were a little bit slushy...and it was the first weekend of February. Although the lift lines were long it was well worth the wait to get to the top. They had a good ski school for my daughter. She was going on the lift with my husband and I after her lesson. All in all Wolf ridge was a great family experience and they will be seeing alot ore of us!!!:)

Just got back from a weekend trip with 30+ church middle schoolers and we all had a great time. We chose Wolf Ridge because it was closer than App, Sugar, or Beech. We skied Saturday 9-4:30. We arrived around 8:15 am. The staff got our group through orientation, rental, and to classes within an hour! All the staff were great, including the lift operators who were always there to help the fall downers.
The trail conditions were what you would expect for this type of winter in NC. And there were many trails open of varying degrees of difficulty. It did get crowded midday, though, but not prohibitively so. The resort is fabulous, the cabins are great, the views are cool, and the kids had a blast in the indoor heated pool in the evening. It was a very successful trip. Thanks Wolf Ridge.
Yea, I would love fresh powder and western slopes but . . . And yes it probably wasn't as crowded as on their busiest days. But lets keep this little jewel our little secret.
Wolf Ridge (formerly Wolf Laurel) is a great place to ski for me. There are two sides of the mountain and an entrance at each. The front entrance is where most everyone goes and offers the most options for first timers to the resort, so we often take the back entrance.
The trails are plenty for this area, although I have yet to ski the mountain fully open. The main run on the backside isn't too long, but offers some serious variety for a single run... there's a terrain park area half way down on the side, there is a slow trail you can take around the terrain park, and a steeper slope along side the terrain park area. They have a good jump setup, and you get to ski through a tunnel under the road, which has a neat factor in and of itself. I especially like that parking uptop means that I get to ski BEFORE I board a lift for the first time. There is a slope that connects the two sides, but snowmaking has been sparce there for now.
The food at both lodges is good, the upper lodge more of a restaurant, the lower more of a cafeteria. Both have a nice fireplace to warm up in and plenty of seating, as we have always been able to find a table, no matter how many church groups were there.
The lift lines aren't properly managed, so many a half empty quad chair will pass you by, but if you pay attention to the crowd, you can usually go fast and get back to the lift while most people are still sitting in the snow. And when the lift line is long, you can take your time getting down. If they would simply manage the chairs better, lift lines would be fine. We try to organize our chair & the one in front or behind us every time. If everyone would just manage themselves, we would all have so much more fun! Quad=4!!!
While I was there the "Wolf" skiied down the slopes, in full costume with flagged ski poles. It was entertaining, and I like the idea that they are safety aware enough to remind people about it. Its also indicitive of their inner personality, fun, youthful and friendly.
We spoke to LOTS of ski patrollers while we were there. One clobbered me in the head with her ski poles while she was cutting in the lift line (not very nice), however most seem like cool experienced folks, who were friendly and informative. My husband was a ski patroller for about 10 years, so he always buddies up with those folks at every resort. :-)
All in all.. the Wolf is my favorite local place for this year. They are working on bringing back an old favorite, and although I didn't ski wolf laurel when it was, I can see that they are working on improving this place for the rest of the coming years. I'm certain that next year I'll be buying the season pass.
I'm an intermediate, just past beginner skiier.

The resort seems to be in pretty good shape. No difficult trails are open as of jan. 10 but are expected to open once the weather gets cooler. Kind of crouded on the front side due to the fact that there is only that one major run were all the other runs open up to. Other than than it being kind of crouded, its pretty good. Most places are fast unless you hit some of the loose snow on the sides.

We just came back from a wonderful weekend at Wolf Laurel. My 11 year old son, Santee, and his friend, Cooper, were up and snowboarding in 45 minutes after having a lesson at the Ski School. Thank you Instructor Derrick for your patience and skills. It was a great sight to watch Santee get on the lift and head up the mountain solo in just a couple of hours. I am sure this will be an annual trip from now on for us. The Ski Slopes Staff Members were just great! From the ticket sales, ski rentals, ski school, sports shop and even the ski patrol, you felt that these people truely love their work and want you to have the best time possible. Thank you to the other Derrick (of the Ski Patrol) for his assistance when Cooper wiped out. The staff at Wolf Mountain Realty were wonderful as well, the condos were very nice and affordable. The views were just awesome! We looked out the front door and saw mountains, we went out back on the balcony and saw mountains. Since I do not ski, the views were especially important to me. I also have to Thank Rick at Wolf Laurel Snow Tubing for letting us have so much fun. It is the nicest tubing spot on the mountain and made Cooper forget about his earlier fall. You all made our 6 hour drive worth it and we truely enjoyed every minute of it. So we will walk bare feet in the sand and gaze at the ocean until next year when we come back to Wolf Laurel.
