Last winter the new management cut one half hour from each afternoon because "it's too dangerous to ski at that hour".

Sounds like happy hour wasn't making them enough money.

When it was revealed that promotional material from the resort claimed that the lifts were open 'til 4:30 PM, but closed at 4:00 PM, management said it was a "misprint".

Not very skier friendly. The hot tub was GREEN at the Morning Eagle. We specified that we wanted a hot tub, but I guess that cleaning it would cost extra. They already told us they wanted $20 for extra towels.

Stay away until this ugly, apparently hostile takeover is resolved.

I agree with the last review, we have been coming for many years and my kids say the terrain park facilities are a big hit for them. They prefer Snoqualmies park but they say the half pipe was a huge surprise to them. It was better than any other pipe here in Washington. Way to go Big Mountain. The fog can be overwhelming at times but usually isn't to bad. We will be back.

Overall I do not feel that Whitefish Mountain Resort (aka the Big Mountain) is worth the ranking of a Top 25 resort. It is really more of a locals ski hill with on mountain lodging. Being from Seattle I have access to a number of ski areas with in reasonable distances. I have made two trips out to the Big Mountain. The first time there was fog every single day of my 5 day trip. The fog was so thick sometimes that I got vertigo.

But I did not want that to judge it just based on the one trip. So I went back again for 5 days and once again it was foggy the entire time. I took a tour with the Mountain Ambassadors who were really nice and told me the way to beat the fog was to ski the trees. Now I know that I am not an expert skier, but I am definitely an intermediate and the trees at Big Mountain are too tight for intermediate skiers.

So in my conclusion the mountain may have great terrain but for the normal skier it is too foggy with too tight of trees. The one great thing they have over other ski areas like them is a great Half Pipe, my kids love it!

Having skied at a number of places from Whistler, to Crystal to Jackson and I would recommend if you are looking for a low key resort with a great little town attached you should definitely go to Schweitzer in Idaho. The trees are perfectly gladded and the people are just as friendly as at Big Mountain.

Oh and management if you read this, change your logo back. I did not buy any memorbilla this time because of your ugly fish. It is quite possibly the worst logo of all ski resorts.

I snowboard here because I like the lack of crowds, steep pitches, and crummy weather keeping the crowds down and the snow good. Thank god for the socked in weather because otherwise we would have way to many people here and this actually would be a "resort". For those who like to ski and snowboard come on out here and those who like to whine and compare here to there; go there instead this winter, you'll most likely get better weather, better service and better skiing. Besides the summertime in Whitefish is really where its at. Incredible golf courses that are affordable, fishing, biking, rafting, hiking, long days...the list goes on.

FOG..yes this place does have poor visibility. For the people that wrote good reviews for this place and did not mention this probably do not ski very well. Personally I love the foggy conditions. Why?.. one might ask, well because of a few reasons. One is that I love to ride in the trees and when riding between them the fog does not matter at all. 2nd..it keeps the snow from getting sun baked and my face getting tenderized to a piece of leather. 3rd.. it keeps all the bad skiers in the house and more snow for me:-)

So its true.. We might not have the best terrain, best snow, best terrain parks, best lift system, best places to stay, best visibility, and for sure not the best place to hang out for the apres specials. BUT.......When you take it all in we AVERAGE OUT FAR BETTER THAN MOST OTHER SKI RESORTS! It would be nice to see a better lift system though..cat tracks to get around the whole mountain reminds me of skiing in 1984. A "new lift" not just an updated one labeled as new would really set this place right.

Fog, Fog, Fog. That about says it all, you must like foggy conditions to spend much time here. I'm sure there are some nice days, but I didn't find any.

I love skiing at White Fish! The snow is always groomed and the best around. We live in Washington and took the train over, what a great way to get to my favorite place to ski. We love the people and feel of the town so much we're looking to move there.

Why do the lifts close early? The map says that they are open until 4:30 but we found that they close at 4PM. If you ask, the help gets snotty, claimimg it's just a misprint on the map. The new owners are pretty crude and the help does not even speak english. Try reporting an accident to them.

I never heard of this place until Edelweiss was the only place available when we wanted to go. Boy am I glad RCI led us to Whitefish. Best snowboarding we have ever had. The St. Augustine Snowboard team had a blast. Edelweiss was a great place to stay and convientent to everything. Two lifts out our back door, one lift out the front. Bierstube next door, Ed & Mullys across the road. The people are extremely friendly. If your in town, make sure you hit up Powder Hour at Ed & Mullys.... $4 PBR pitchers. Can't wait to go back.
