My family tried Discovery for the first time recently and had a great experience. It is a well planned ski area. A safe & low key beginner area with significantly long runs for new skiers. New skiers can gain confidence there without getting buzzed by lift-bound hotshots. A second set of lifts serves an adjacent peak with a nice mix of varying intermediate trails with some expert runs. I spent the whole day on that peak while my kids were learning over on the beginner hill. The bowl shape means that all runs on this side of the mountain converge to the same general area, so you can check in on the kids or do a run or two with them, or make a quick stop at the lodge, without backtracking all over the mountain as you see at some areas that have outgrown themselves and have runs in all directions. The backside (north) has some scary stuff that keeps the hotshots over there.

Some areas never tell the truth about snow conditions and Discovery is one of those, they'll tell you they have 6 new inches and you'll find a sciff when you show up. Fun to ski if it is a true powder day, which they don't have many of. Look up the weather report before going (don't believe Discovery's website)

Awesome steeps on the backside. Great ski area where you can ride the lift with the owner of the area. We have had season passes up there for a couple of years and it just gets better and more fun each time we go. Discovery is the bomb!!!!!!!!

Discovery is Montana's hidden secret. Once the base is over 25" it is heaven. If less than 25" I don't go. This area has every kind of terrain from rank begnner to XX. When they say XX, believe it.

With fresh powder it is unbeatable. Lift tickets are affordable. The kids have their own program and also can roam the mountain. Don't worry they are being watched, and if they misbehave, it will be time out. The cafeteria has great food and if it is too pricey, bring your own. This is a resort built by skiers for skiers. No big corporate" we only care about our profits" mentality here.

If you are looking for apres ski, or looking pretty in front of the fireplace, don't Ski Discovery. If you want a great skiing experience that will chanllenge you. Discovery is for you. It is about a half hour's drive to Fairmont Hot Springs Resort where soaking in the naturally heated pool and watching snow flakes fall makes the evening.

I love discovery. The mountain is amazing and has the steepest terrain i have ever skiied in montana. If you have never been, its a must see. The people are great, some real characters, the snow has its good and bad days, but overall i love discovery.
