My son and I skied Wild Mountain Sunday 11-18-07 late 5-8pm to avoid any crowds, by then they had 3 runs open, although you had to walk to the other chair lift, I thought the snow was surprisingly good considering the weather we have had, we have a sunday pass so it did'nt cost us anything to go. It was fun just to get out again and make a few turns-a big thanks to Wild Mountain! hey at least they try to give us something to ski on being the only one open as yet.
Wild was the first resort to open in Minnesota. Although they only had one run open, it was still worth it to finally get out and make some turns.
The single run was completely packed, of course, as people from all over the state were hoping to get in some first-season turns. On top of that, there were reps for ski and snow board manufacturers there doing a demo, so that added to the business.
The base was deep, but the snow was so soft, you couldn't find the bottom to it, so carving turns on carver skis was just not happening. Wild did have a few rails setup for people to hit, but there was a constant line to run them. On top of that, they were all very short.
The biggest complaint isn't about the snow conditions or how busy the resort was--this was to be expected--but it was the management that was the problem. Instead of putting up ropes or having someone at the bottom of pair up singles or doubles to use the single quad that was running, it was just shear chaos. Also, instead of having the lifty at the top shoo people away from the top of the run to click in, they just let people pile up at the top, making is completely terrible to get off the lift. Additionally, the lifty at the bottom was horrible on getting the chair slowed down and lined up for you, so it would constantly catch you painfully in the back of the knees.
So even though the snow was crappy and the run was busy, it was worth it. I think Wild Mountain wasn't exactly thinking clearly on the management of skiers and boards on the hill, so this really detracted from the experience. So instead of staying a second day as I had planned, I decided to skip the terrible management of people in the lift lines and head up to Lutsen for Sunday.

My family loves to ski at Wild Mountain. We live in a Northern Twin Cities Suburbs and it's a quick drive to avoid the huge crowds at the other Metro ski Areas. The ski school staff has been great and taught my daughter to ski during weekly lessons for the past 4 years. These are group lessons and very affordable. Their snow-making ability is fantastic so even when our backyard grass is greening up, we know there will be good snow to ski on at Wild. The staff has always been friendly, efficient and knowlegeable. If you haven't tried Wild, get out there - you will not be disappointed.

Our family has been skiing Wild Mountain for several years. We love the family friendly atmosphere and helpful/friendly staff. Our children have excelled their skiing/riding ability with the awesome ski school staff. Most of all we appreciate their support of those in the military. We first went to Wild Mountain because of the nice military discount they offered our entire family. However, we soon discovered that with all Wild Mountain has to offer, it is by far our choice of local ski destinations.
Wild Mountain is usually the first ski area to open in Minnesota. My girlfriend and I went there for a day of skiing in mid-November 2006.
They had only three runs open - a blue, a black, and the terrain park / bunny hill. It was nice to get there and shake off the rust. The downside is that it was overrun with snowboarders and the snow was more ice than anything. For $20, you'll get some time in, but you'll be hard pressed to really have a great time. If they are open, you're better off at Spirit, Lutsen, or Welch.
