My family and I have been season pass holders at the peaks for 3 years in a row. This past season, I was able to ski 56 days. (16 of those out west....BC, Utah, CO.) In our opinion, Caberfae is a great value. Especially if it is within driving distance for you. My family really enjoys the terrain at Caberfae. We are skiers. We ski to ski, not to sit in the lounge and drink or go to the spa....don't go to Caberfae if that is what you are looking for. It isn't here (they do have a bar, but I have only been there once when we got rained/iced in.) As far as children...I highly recommend private lessons (and it is much more affordable than in other locations). My children have had many good instuctors. However, their group program is a bit limited.

NASTAR was a terrific (and needed) addition last year. Lots of fun was had by both the children and the adults.

For us, Crystal is only about 10 minutes farther than Caberfae. Even my 4 year old has commented on how much longer the hills are at Caberfae than Crystal. It is not fair to compare the Caberfae or Crystal to Boyne/Nubs, as that is so much farther for most people living south of the hills. That said, Crystal has really nice accomodations, etc. it is really pretty. But, even my 4 year old gets bored with the hills if she isn't racing. Thor and Loki are the only hills that challenge her and they are steep and plain...and a bit boring. (My kids have enjoyed racing at Crystal.) I would also give high rankings to Crystals ski school and race team.

If I was to compare them to Boyne or Nubs, I would have to say they are equal in VALUE. Personally, I would rather ski at Caberfae several weekends per season, and have money left to go out west than spend it going to Boyne frequently. (Lets face it, Boyne is as expensive as CO or Utah! And, Boyne stinks compare to out west) That said, Boyne and Nubs do have a lot larger terrain that we do enjoy when we get up there. I just think it is expensive for what they have.

My advice....if you are looking for one weekend per year to go have fun skiing go to Boyne or Nubs. If you are looking for twinkling lights and ski-in-ski out and spas, and group lessons for your children, go to Crystal. (I think Crystal also has skate skiing trails, which I would love to try). If you are looking for close, yet varied terrain, affordable, but a bit rustic...go to Caberfae.

It is June, and I am still thinking snow!!!! Chili anyone? (The country...not the meal!)

Skied there March 21,08--I like the longer runs and the steeper pitch that the bulldozing has wrought--but I have a couple areas that are sketchy. 1st--why not bulldoze the former BoBuck area and Bullnose to blend into the North Peak? It would be for 2 great hills blending old with new...also, there is no fence to speak of on Smiling Irishmen, a beginner run, so if you slip, you are going over a cliff (the old bobuck site). Uncool. The run outs on the T and Q chairs is way to narrow--bottlenecking. And the bad part of the manmade peaks? there is nothing to stop you from going over the backside, like a snowfence and there is no wind protection. I grew up skiing at caberfae when the hills were scattered through the woods, and though it wasnt as much vertical, it had such fun character. I like the new cant of the slopes, its VERY fast, but miss the character. For skiing in the trees, rather than from Above, INTO the trees.......go 1/2 hour north to crystal. Very aggressive in saving caberfae from bankruptcy in the 80's, but needs some new life. All in all, though, the slopes ARE fast and much longer, which is a plus.

Caberfae could be a great resort- unfortunately they have slow lifts that require hiking. If you don't live in a field in Indiana or like jumps, keep driving.

Caberfae offers some of the greatest terrain in Michigan at an excellent value. A 3.5 hour drive form my home in South Bend, Caberfae's terrain is challenging, well groomed and serviced by user friendly short lift lines. We leave home at 7:00AM, ski for 6 hours and are still home by 10:30PM. Caberfae is more of a ski area than a resort..so if you would like to ski, stop at Caberfae. If you are looking for some place to wear your Uggs all weekend, keep driving.

Caberfae has so much potential, but it is as if they don't care at all about their guests. The bar is tiny, but with lots of little kids on the weekends. The runs are long, but who wants to hike at the top of the lift?
There is no park ever that anyone would want to ride. Having rails does not make a good park- and they cost money. 90% of riders and skiers that hit the park just want some good tabletop jumps and Cab has never even TRIED to make ONE with all the snow they had this season. The West Michigan Snowboard Club and I will not be going back to Caberfae. We'd rather hit Bittersweet- at least they build jumps and take care of their resort!

Decent place with good student deals... Whomever the Terrain park is named after is probably turning in their grave.. two poorly installed rails.. thats it.. If you are gonna name a terrain park after someone at least put forth a little effort.

A decent place but the terrain park is weak sauce. No jumps of course per standard lame Michigan resorts for 2007. Sadly their rails are down right dangerous and not very fun. The staff is chill but almost too chill, they dont seem to get much done. Low prices keep me returning.

More jumps! More rails! Get it done!

after taking a 10 year break from skiing Caberfae, since I decided to go larger and go to boyne.....I went back. Having learned how to ski at caberfae 30 years ago, a LOT has changed. the runs ARE longer and the gradient better........BUT...............the two double chairs are from the 60's for petes sake! I remember them well from when i skied there as a kid in the 70/80s. the wooden slats for chairs, repainted a dozen times over and the chairlifts CRAWL. I agree with the poster about the icy conditions thanks to no Trees on the man-made "peaks" and also, the run-outs are VERY narrow and you could make one wrong turn and be in a ditch beside the hill (on the quad esp). all the excavating has made it look like a gravel pit....(skiers left on top of quad) and for SURE the criss-crossing trails to and from the triple are an accident waiting to happen. they need to revamp or they are going to end up back where they were in the 80's.......on the verge of collapse on a regular basis. Its funny to go there and see the same signage and lodges from when I was a kid......I miss the sprawling layout, even if the hills werent as big, there were slopes upon slopes..........oh well. A for effort at least. But since they got the 2 peaks, they could at least branch out from the top to the old hills like Bull nose, Bo Buck, West Ridge.....to increase terrain..........

Caberfae is a great place to ski. The hills are bigger than Crystal Mountain and so are the runs. The snow is not as high quality as the snow on Crystal and it gets very icy at the end of the night. You have to be careful due to the trails intersecting each other. It is a great deal to ski at. They offer low prices on everything. Very affordable. It would be great if they made more runs.

Awesome place. I live in Traverse City and have had season passes at other resorts. However, I made the switch this year to the Peaks and I'll never look back. With runs like Canyon, the place skis bigger than all of the other N. Michigan Resorts.
