I agree about the Museum of Chairlifts MIS-statement. Good heavens!! Try living in Grand Rapids and having to drive 3 1/4 hours to be at Boyne! My yearly week-long trip just got scotched due to unforeseen financial junk and I am CRESTFALLEN!!! Since I cant get there on a day trip very well, my yearly jaunts to the boynes is the highlight of my year! Now I'm stuck going maybe on a weekender only to the cadillac area (sigh). Now-do the math--from south to north: quad/quad/quad/double/sixpack/triple/ramshead quad/disciples triple/disc II triple, alpine double. I go midweek--and there are NO lines ever and all the Front runs (my favorites) are SO accessible!! I agree about the blues in the front, if they were in Grand Rapids, they'd be considered double diamonds:) I actually shed a tear to know i'd likely not be able to hit boyne this year and had to settle for this local dump where I was relegated to ONE slope and could only take one hour max before being absolutely bored and tired of a decrepit and packed lift. GO BOYNE!!! whether I'm there or not--it is the BEST and I think you can tell how much i love the place considering my user name!! their lifts are just FINE---even the double on hemlock is fast!! dont believe the poster who talked about museum of chairlifts. that is utterly false!! even their slowest lifts move much faster than ANY LIFTS from Mancelona south!! (exc for the crystal clipper and a place called bittersweets Express).

What people say isn't always true: this is not a museum of chairlifts. The 6 person highspeed is great, easy to get on and off and very amazingly quick. All the other chairlifts are generally the same, from 2 to 4 people, all going the same speed and they're even the same color. Yesterday they snow and temerature was great, but on the weekends the crowd becomes a bit crowded. As far as renting goes, the line was horribly long but it went fairly quickly and was well worth it if you're renting for several days. Most green circle runs are pretty flat and scenic, and you can't pick up speed fast. Blue squares and black diamonds don't differ much. I made a horrible mistake going up the highspeed lift and taking a blue square first; it wasn't as shallow as I thought it would be. Overall, I think that this is a place worth visiting. Besides skiing, there are several other things to do including Avalanche Bay (the waterpark), many other restraunts nearby, a spa, and activities at the Mountain Run Clubhouse. If you're like me, you're guarenteed to have a good time.

Went to Boyne Mountain over the weekend of February 2, 2008 and had a great time. We got a package deal where we got our lift tickets, lodging, and breakfast all for one price. We stayed in the Clock Tower Lodge and it is the older of the accommodations but is still a nice place to stay. The rooms were nice and were equipped with WIFI Internet access. The only complaint was the room was too warm at times and the shower was hard to get fixed at the right temperature.
The breakfast was amazing and excellent. Full course buffet and even my hot chocolate was included.

As far as the slopes, this is a very nice place to ski. Black runs are pretty challenging and it has some nice blue and green cruisers that are almost off by themselves in a wooded area which makes for some nice skiing. High-speed lift is really nice and this place has many lifts to keep the lines from getting too long. At one point during the day the lift servicing the green and blue cruisers (off in the woods) got really long, but only for a short time. There was an ample amount of snow and it snowed most of the day we were there.

Overall, this place is as good as it gets for a “resort” feel in the Midwest. It is just that………a true resort with most of the same amenities one would experience out west or in the northeast. They have an indoor waterpark, several restaurants, 2-story arcade, ski shop, and even a general store so that there would be no reason to really need to leave the resort. Only complaint as with most resorts is the food in the cafeteria was very high so brining your own food may be an option at least for lunch. Other things on site included: Ice skating rink, outdoor heated pools, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and cross country skiing.
Very similar to Crystal with the resort feel but jus a little but nicer.

Only things that Boyne Mountain could use would be maybe one more high-speed lift since they have over 50 runs and a few more long runs for people who like cruisers. (although I understand the terrain may prevent that)

Best Place in lower Michigan when it comes to areas to ride. I've been to them all and Boyne Mt. is the most spread out and has the most terrain to offer all skill levels.

I was a little dissapointed when I went on 122607 and 122707 that the pipe wasn't open and their terrain park wasn't in the usual spot next to it. When it's open it's as good a park as you can find in Michigan with integrated jumps and rails. This year they had rails but not jumps on rails.

The biggest problem I have with Boyne is the amount of riders who go there. It get's packed. Anyone who say's boarders are menaces hasn't been to Boyne when the skiers are swishing back and forth taking up an area twenty feet wide, (everytime I was cut off it was by a skier not a boarder). The resort does all they can when it's busy, they open all lifts and try to ease the congestion, but due to it's popularity there's not much you can do except go to the backside and enjoy.

Definitely a good place to spend a day or two. As always in MI, icy not a mountain.

Highspeed is great..agree with poster below totally trail naming is a joke..they really have about 40 slopes not 61. And those old quads are hilariously slow and crappy. Truely a living museum of chairlifts. Why go the extra 30 minutes to face a museum and crowds. Go to Schuss instead.

I really don't get the prima donna attitude in the last post. Did your plane to Colorado accidentally land in Boyne Falls and you were left dissappointed? Aw. This is Michigan! Boyne is well-run, efficient and, in places, plenty challenging. Sure, at 500 vertical, you won't be huffing on the lower 1000' vertical of Hemlock. But don't tell me FIS, Superbowl and Hemlock are a cakewalk. If you can ski the bumps down the skier's left of Hemlock, you can ski Blue Ox or Highline at Vail. And if you tell me everyone can, how come when the afternoon sun has baked-out the back bowls, those front-side, double black mogul runs are still empty. Devil's Dive and DL's Drop are never groomed and very worthy black diamonds.

The lifts are fine unless you're skiing between Christmas and New Year's. And then its busy everywhere. There are plenty of 3 and 4 man fixed grips and the 6 pack is one of the fastest lifts you'll ride, anywhere.

I just skied every run on Sunday, March 4. There was 3" to 4" of fresh, dry snow over no ice. We logged 20,000 vertical feet with, virtually, no liftlines. It was the best March snow I've ever skied in Michigan in over 30 years of skiing. Boyne sells a flex ticket, which allows you the option of skiing or hitting the waterpark. Ever since the waterpark went in, I swear the liftlines went down.

Charge down Boyne all day and you will become a better skier. We don't have mountains in Michigan. But thousands of skiers have pushed it at Boyne Mountain and gone on to ski very well out west and out east.

Nice sweeping WIDE slopes, perfect pitch. Meadows, Superbowl, Mclouth--football stadium sized. Crowds move fast-so do lifts....probably the most "elitist" premier resort, but the skiing is rock solid and an absolute pleasure to ski on. Big Variety of terrain. Snow is almost always great--great grooming/snowmaking. Sometimes slick on Hemlock but generally ice-free. Is the best snow when nobody else is open quality-wise. Boyne Mtn is the "forerunnner" and standard to which most resorts aspire to be. Theres an attitude that you are skiing the best in the midwest and for the most part, you Are. a total blast to ski!

Super fun ski area - lots of terrain to choose from and lots of improvements over the last few years - can get a little crowded, it is probably the most popular destination in Northern Michigan and to an extent it deserves that! Haven't visited most of the new stuff (water park, etc.) but the skiing is great!

Boyne is listed among the best resorts in Michigan. Supported by big money resorts nationwide it has fast lifts and lots of terrain compared to most of Michigan. However, with most big resorts there are big lines. Boyne has been busy everytime I have been there, to many people, too many kids, too much ice.

If you want to follow the crowd, drive to Boyne, you wont be dissapointed.
