I think it is the best ski resort in the Detroit Metro area. Lot of lifts (fast ones) and trails, and long ones as compared to other ski resorts in the area.

I went to Mt. Holly on Sat 1/5 for the first time. Snow was pretty good surely relating the large snowfall SE Michigan got a few days earlier. Overall, there are a good number of runs with varying terrain which kept it somewhat interesting for a local place. I didn't have to wait much at all on the lifts which was nice. Runs were short as I expected but they were enough to challenge beginner & intermediate level skiers/boarders.
Now for the bad stuff. Almost everybody on the blues and even some of the blacks were true beginners (as in first timers). That's fine except that most of these skiers/riders had not been instructed in proper slope etiquette. It was difficult to get off the lifts b/c people would not clear out. A few times there was a set of poles laying there & three kids standing in the way. Going down the slopes generally involved steering through multiple groups of kids sitting on the slope or trying to avoid someone bombing out of control. A few times the lifts stopped for a very prolonged time for no reason that I could tell (although they never seemed to stop when someone would drop equipment in the unloading area). Given that there are a number of lift options it never really backed up too badly, though.
Overall, I would recommend it for a quick tune-up before a trip but expect some frustration. From what I heard from some of the regulars, it is probably advisable to bring a lock for your board (or use the check-in). I guess boards have been known to get "borrowed". They had signs there that seemed to insinuate the same.
I went to Mount Holly for the first time last weekend. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the lodge was. Out on the slopes, the grooming was comparable with what I was used to at the resorts I learned on out East (NY/Vermont/Mass). The scenery is really not bad either.
Of course, it's SE Michigan, so the vertical drop is not huge; however the high-speed quad makes this bearable, since you can still get in plenty of runs (even though they are short). I went on a Friday, and the place started to get busy (apparently with local kids) around 4pm. They were nice enough, but there was the typical problem if a few snowboarders sitting around on the hill.
Overall, Mount Holly is nice for beginning skiers or those looking just to get back on the skis for the first time or two in the season. But the blacks should really be blues and blues should be green. I had only been skiing 5 times ever, and I could easily ski the whole mountain (I will admit it was warm and the conditions were a little slow).
If you live far from the bigger slopes, and are a beginner or just out for a fun day (not needing a huge challenge), Mount Holly is a nice place to go get in some runs, then enjoy a warm (or cold) adult beverage in the lounge by the fire!

Well, I went to Mt. Holly 4 times this season.. I'd have to say it's a great place for beginners, there was a beginner run that was quite long, much longer than those i've seen at Caberfae and TreeTops. I've only been skiing 3 times before coming to Mt. Holly and I was able to cover the entire mountain numerous times in one day, so, it wasn't too challenging.. (unless of course you wanna hit some jumps, there were some HUGE jumps). They groomed the entire mountain in only 30 minutes, which was nice. The express lift was awesome! I don't know about you, but I like getting the most runs in as I can. I live in Mid-Michigan, so, i'd much rather go to Mt. Holly than drive 2.5+ hours to all the other mtns. Overall = it's a good mtn. for the price and location, and if you're a beginner, it's a great place to learn at.

Probably one of the best if you must go in SE Michigan. Their snow reports are fairly accurate. They actually do groom all their runs and make snow more regularly than other places. The facilities are newer and more well kept. The chairs are pretty fast too. The terrain on some of the blues is decent and the trails are more scenic than other local spots. I would recommend this slope over any of the other local places.

If you are desparate for skiing in SE michigan this probably is your best place. Some decent terrain (still very flat) and a high speed lift (which is kind of neat if you are teaching you kids how to ride them before you head north or out west) Overall we had fun here!
Lot of high school kids in the afternoons and weekends - the race teams practice here and are a really nice group of kids and coaches (some of the others hanging around not with the teams leave some things to be desired in the manners department) Good place to introduce your kids to the sport!
