I have been skiing Sunday River intermittently over the last 15 years and more constantly over the last two. Bought a ski out condo last year and just love it. It's the best mountain in the Northeast for fun and entertainment, as well as being family friendly. It has by far the best snow conditions. When I was a renter, the condo's were always clean, and customer service was always helpful and friendly. With the new Boyne ownership, and the discussed plans for the future, Sunday River is only going to get better!

A lot of people are saying that there are no mogul runs or glades at Sunday River and thats why they are disappointed. These words are coming from a local who boards there EVERY wekend and holiday period. The reason people can't find what they're looking for is because of the expance of the mtn. There are over 30 glades trails easy. The reason nobody can find them is because they don't look outside ofthe box. Keep your eyes open on the sides of trails and you'll see paths though them. Thhey may not be trails, but you can ski/ride them! As for the parks, they're top notch, so many features and awesome jibbing. Just make sure to call your drop before you go or you will have some unhappy people in your face. Have fun!

We visited in April of 2008. This is a nice resort. The conditions are a little icy and you will find runs of various levels of difficulty. The food is good in the lodge and they have a lot of restaurants and activities nearby. We stayed in the Brookside Condo's which are a little pricey for the quality of the room, but it is right next to the slope so you can literally walk across the parking lot to the slope. Very cool. One point, sand is everywhere (all parking lot areas) so be sure to wear the right shoes. The people were great and we will go back. This is a true ski town.----Midwest Ski Couple

Sunday River is one of the BEST on the east coast! If you can't get out west, SR is the place to go!! Great snow, varied terrain, great trail system! I love it!!!!

Good snow conditions but trails way too skinny, too many kids crossing in front of you causing wipe outs. Not impressed
New Years not a lot to offer for activities involving kids and parents
Would not return

Skiing Sunday River in March is a very fulfilling skiing experience. I normally go to some of the NH mountains like Attitash, Cranmore, Wildcat, Cannon, and Bretton Woods. But none of them even come close to Sunday River! It's in a great town (Bethel) that is a great alternative to going to a place like North Conway, NH where traffic is backed up all the way to the Canadian border. The mountain is a little confusing since there's 8 mountains (yes, 8) that have the elevation of some NH's ski areas. Overall, the terrain was excellent and the snow was fantastic, even in late March.

I was lucky enough to ski Sunday River, for the first time, on Jan 2, 2008, after a dump of about a foot of fresh, dry powder the night before. It was one of the best days of New England skiing I've had in roughly twenty-five years. Because of the deep snow, everything was skiing a notch harder than it should (for me at least -- I'm used to New England hard-pack), so the mountain was plenty challenging. Furthermore, I had no lines all day -- every lift was ski-on (though some lifts were unfortunately closed.) There are many twisty, medium-steep intermediate trails that I simply loved, tough enough to warm up your legs but easy enough for an advanced intermediate like myself to get up some rhythm and speed.

One of the most appealing features of Sunday River is its sprawling layout. There are many different peaks and you have a real sense of exploration traveling from one region to another. The scenery is outstanding.

I had read a little about the strategy of skiing Sunday River before going -- it was good advice, and I'll pass it along. Don't plan on doing too much "horizontal" skiing -- that is, choose an area of the place and stick with it for a bunch of runs. When you're ready to move to a different area, kiss your current area goodbye because you'll waste precious time trying to back to it. Look at the map carefully and find the "most downhill" way to get to the next section, and go with that. With a little planning I was able to avoid herring-boning all day with only one exception: an unavoidable trail linking Jordan to the rest of the place called "Kansas" that is as flat as its name suggests.

Also, stick to the detachable lifts to cram in as much skiing as possible. I would've ridden detachables all day but my quads were burning so badly I actually took a few slow lifts on purpose! And it was one of the only ski days of my life where I was actually relieved that I got down to the bottom at 4:02 and not 3:59. It was a whole lotta skiing.

I highly recommend Sunday River and I will be back.

I have been skiing in maine since i was 6 years old. We are so lucky to have as many ski areas as there are in this state. Sunday river diffently has the best snow grooming in the u.S.A.!!!!! I have skiied out west a few times, fantastic experience, but i still believe we have some excellent slopes out here in the east. Sunday river being one!!!!!!!
Think snow ************
