Just Awsome. the people the food the lodge everything is awesome. i would recomend this secret to anyone who likes glades, cruzers, and bumps. Golden Smelt (one of the bump runs) is amazing all the time. if your not into any of the difficult stuff, there is always the ever so popular bunny slope.

Skiied Saddleback with my family over Christmas. I am now 22 and my first time skiing ever was at Saddleback when I was 10 years old -- but I haf not been back until now. I was absoluely breathtaken when we arrived.. it has changed so much and it looks amazing. This may be repititious, but the T-Bars must go. (I have a bruise to prove my inexperience with them!!).

We had such a blast in the new SouthRidge condominiums, too. We were a few of the first people to stay there and we enjoyed it to the fullest. Beautiful view of Rangely and the lakes!

I agree that it's a hard place to go for a day trip, especially in snowy weather. Route 4 is not pleasant traveling in a storm.

I too went to the area to ski Sugarloaf but ended up trying Saddleback because I heard so many good things about it from the locals. In my estimation, it is hands down, the best ski value anywhere in New England. The terrain is excellent-as challenging as anything I've skiied in the East. It's great for families and hardcore skiiers. It's the only relatively untappped big mountain left in the East as well, meaining crowds are still at a minimum. As the previous post mentioned they are ramping up a huge expansion plan and they've already started. There are 3 real estate projects currently going on and further lift and trail development plans are in progress. they have a state-of-the-art base lodge with great food and all the amenities. They plan to double the skiable acreage and there's already 60 great trails to choose from. I agree, the lifts aren't high speed but I believe every lift that's going in will be a medium-high speed quad going forward. The Kennebego T-Bar (currently the only lift to the summit) will be replaced by a quad chairlift for the 2008-2009 season. The expansion plans are impressive and I understand real estate is selling very well depsite the housing slow-down. Hope it doesn't get too crowded with all the great things they have planned in the future! Anyone who enjoys a big mountain ski experience (currently 2000 ft vertical with more vertical after expansion, and 4120 elevation) for the cheapest lift ticket around ($40) needs to check out Saddleback.

Went to the area with the intention to ski Sugarloaf - a local told us to try Saddleback first. We did, loved it, and never bothered with Sugarloaf. This is a great ski mountain - terrain is nicely divided with areas for experts, long intermediate cruising, and a great beginner area below the base lodge. While the lifts serving the main mountain are not the latest, you never have to wait and the Berry familiy is working to expand and update. I expect great things in the next few years. Great lodge, great ski school, friendly staff, inexpensive tickets - overall a great skiing value. Not too much apres ski at the mountain itself (although more is coming as they build out the village) but it is very close to Rangeley where there are plenty of nice restaurants, bars, shops, etc.

I have been skiing at saddleback since I was 3 years old. I am 12 now and still love it. I've done every trail but Governor, Muleskinner, and America. I am looking forward to trying those ones out to. The Berry family is working hard on improving Saddleback and have done a great job. The terrain park has gotten so much better. Back in January I just came up for a long weekend with my dad and it snowed a foot while we were there. It was all powder BABY. Saddleback is my favorite ski area by far. I LOVE IT.

Have skied here over 3 different seasons now with my family. Usually stay for the weekend - either renting a condo on the mountain or a house in Rangeley. Skied recently the 1st weekend in February before the big storm hit. The conditions then were excellent. Packed powder, very little ice at all.

This mountain is a superp family mountain. The lower mountain lifts are great for kids just starting out, or even with a few years experience, but wanting to gain independence. This is the only mountain I let me kids, ages 8, 10, 10, ski with their friends alone on the lower mountain. Part of it is due to lack of crowds - there is no crowd. Great for skiers, I suppose, but bad for the Berry family who purchased the mountain. But I feel safe having my kids ski the lower mountain on their own.

The lodge is the best I have been at anywhere. I have skied out west several times and many place in the east. Clean, good food, not too crowded, very nice ski atmosphere. I don't worry about my kids here at all.

I would love to see a quad chair to the top, but there is no wait on the double. the T-bar to the very top needs to go too. The trails from the top are very scenic and traditional New England winding through the woods. Hopefully if they can get some skiers here improved lifts will come.

I would also like to see more options to stay on mountain such as a small hotel. It would make it easier to come up. It's not an easy day trip from points south.

But I think this mountain is a gem and my kids always want to come back. They have more fun here than anywhere else, as do I. I only hope they can get enough skiers to keep open for many years.

Went there with 11yo daughter for her first down -hill ski experience. The beginner slope was great, very wide and long but easy . the instructor excellent, everyone was friendly and helpful. I skied the intermediate slope which was fun but actually enjoyed skiing the beginner slope , tool WE want to go back as soon as we can. Surprised at how few people were there.

Wednesday Jan.3, 2007. Great skiing, wonderful lodge, and good food. Where are the people? This has to be the best kept secret in the east. Skiied all day, no icy spots, and unfortunately, no lift lines. Great for me but others are missing some great skiing!
