this mountain is a great place to go if your going on a weekday or a day when most people are in school or working. the moutains aweful on the weekends and during most vacations. the terrain park is great except for the pointless 5 bucks and video. its great for day trips and weeknight boarding.

Caters to snowboarders and unsupervised kids and teens. Sometimes the place is literally crawling with them. Many kids are dropped off there for the day, and on weekday afternoons several buses full of kids arrive.

The mountain itself has a 'big mountain' feel. 1000' vertical and some reasonably long runs. Disregarding 'upper', 'lower', 'connection', and other designations there are 7 runs (plus 2 more in the beginner area). There is also a large board park including a halfpipe.

Weekday mornings and early afternoon skiing is a great experience at Wachusett. Also, 100% of trails are lit every night until 10pm. Avoid weekends if possible or you may experience a new definition of the word "crowded". You cannot even find room to ski on the black diamond trails because of all kinds of kids 'pizza' wedging down them or snowboarders sitting across them.

Don't get me wrong - Wachusett can be a great place to ski if you time it right. I ski there often and have had many great days there, but have also left after the the first run because of the crowd and skied-off conditions. Fortunately, Wachusett will give you a raincheck if the conditions don't meet your expectations and you turn your ticket in within the first hour.

One other thing - on busy days, the lodge and dining area is crammed full of bags in every nook and cranny, and on and under every table. Very difficult to find a place to sit and eat.

I had heard and seen the commercials for years, "Wawawa...", but hadn't thought much of going there...until two years ago. My parents and some friends had swung by Wachusett to take in some last gasp skiing, after having had a less-than spectacular time up in New hampshire (poor natural snow conditions, and not good snowmaking). They had a blast!! Too bad it was the end of the '05-'06 season...I wasn't able to go that year. Last year, though, I took a risk and bought a season pass (bronze). I figured that I'd need to go 5.5 times to get my money's worth ($199. at the time). Turned out that I had gone 14 times, mostly night-skiing after work, and could have easily gone more times. I bought a season pass for this year, too, and have gone twice, so far. I live and work just outside Boston, and have found going to Wachusett for night skiing to be a greatly convenient escape from a long work week. The trails are well lit; and the snowmaking can't be beat (as long as it's cold enough, they will make incredibly fine manmade snow to add to the natural stuff). I can leave work at five, get in five to twenty runs(depending on how long I spend in the lodge), and be back at home by 11pm, ready for the next work day. If only I'd started doing this years ago...the fun I would have had! It's just 55 miles from Cambridge or Brighton, out the Pike, Rte. 117, or Rte. 2. (exit 25 off Rte. 2) I don't ski on the Look Mom trail (rails and half-pipe) but it looks great from the ski lift, and the skiers and riders below seem to be having a blast!

Frankly, Wachusett is the sort of mountain that is great when one has to choose between going skiing and not going skiing, but it pales in comparisson with resorts farther North. Be warned, it can get old pretty quick. There are only 3 reasonably steep trails on the entire mountain- Smith Walton, Coniffer, and Tenth. I ski at Wachusett alot, mainly because skiing at Wawa is better than not skiing when I cant get a ride farther North. Great beginner mountain- no point paying for a more expensive lift ticket and longer drive up North when the beginner won't need it. Lots of ski clubs go to Wachusett, including mine, so watch out on Wednesday and Friday evenings- the place gets jammed with people. Not really impressive terrain for the more advanced skier (last time I went to Sunday River, I skied White Heat, the longest steepest run in New England, 8 times in a row), so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Apres Ski, there is a Starbucks, as well as the traditional sort of food found at most resorts.

If younhave ever been to a great mountain with tons of terrain, you can say that wachusett can compare with other large ones. The terrain is somewhat similar to something out west. The lifts are great, the people are great. The only difference between a larger mountain out in the rockies is the trails arent as long. Chill out with some buds. You an have fun at any mountain aslong as you are wity your buds who push you and know your limits. Go get Em' Rock on.

There is nothing "fantastic" about Wachusett. I used to love it as a kid, but now there are things that I find ridiculous in comparison to other mountains. First on the list of ridiculousness is the newly implemented "park pass." I've never heard of a mandatory fee and video before entering a park. Wachusett really needs to ease up on their rules. The back of the lift ticket clearly states "Ski/Ride at your own risk" Thats understood anywhere you go. Perhaps they can make this mandatory for riders under the age of 16. Second on the list of ridiculousness, is the fact that the bus drivers drop you off "roadside" at the edge of the outer parking lots, where most other mountains will at least bring you to a central point in the parking lot. Very dissapointed in the dircation Wachusett has gone in the past few years. Lame, Very lame.

My school goes to Wawa every Friday. It is a very nice mountain; basically an intermediate mountain with a great lodge, and some fine trails. There are two terrain parks (both blue). They are Hitchcock and Look Mom. Look Mom has a very nice Halfpipe some mean jumps and nasty rails; however, you must pay 5$ for a two year pass to be able to ski or ride there. That may actually be a good thing for avid riders because less people will be there. Hitchcock is a mini-Terrain Park with some jumps and rails.
Best thing about Wachusett: THE LIFTS ARE INCREDIBLY FAST. No slow lifts here. Doesnt take more than a few minutes to get to the 2006'ft summit. The summit has a very nice view. Connifers Connection is definitly the fan favorite(blue/black) But 10th mtn. trail is my personal favorite. It has moguls but it's easy to go around them. You will pick up some mean speed on this trail. Smith Walton is the hardest in my opinion. A racing trail for college ski racers. It starts out nice, but there is one (and another minor) deadly hill. Not recomended for beginers. All the summit trails are roomy except for Balence Rock and Roppers Road. They are fun, but crammed in.

Recomend: Take Minutemen Express to Hitchcock - Frannies Folly. Nce downhill run.
Connifers Connection: Popular trail, not as hard as you'd think it is.

Small place with a few really nice runs. Went today, skiied 4 to 10 and great time. Good to go on weekday nights, especially off nights. Nothing huge, but a fun place to take some turns and get on on surprisingly loose and nice snowpack. Terrain parks not open yet, as is some parts of the mountain.
