I usually ski at a large resorts further north in Vermont, but this year for presidents day weekend I was with a mixed group of 4 skiers and I was hesitant to deal with the Holiday weekend crowds in VT. We found Berkshire east a charming oldtime mellow heaven. The snow conditions were excellent, and there were no crowds and very short (less that a minute) liftlines. I don't agree that they lie about the vertical, it's there, it's just that the base is low and the top isn't very high, but they have an awesome snowmaking system and a good water supply. We had lovely tree lined trails all to ourselves. There are long easy runs as well as steeper runs too. The really challenign terrain is there, but the snow hs to be good and you have to know where to look (it's on the map). The price of rentals and lift tix was excellent as was the local draft beer at the bar at the end of the day. This resort has no condos and no on mountain hotel or "pedestrian village" so that keeps the crowds down and the skiing the way it used to be, except better!

This ski area lies about its vertical. Advertised vertical is 1180, real vertical is about 900. thats 30% over what it actually is. Not cool. Would you pay for 11.8 gallons of gas when you only get 9?

Terrain park was lacking

Terrain in general is okay, their snow making was barely palatable, and their terrain was so-so.

Try Jiminy peak if you are in the area. They are honest about their vertical (1150) and have an all around better resort. Only advantage to Berkshire east is its crowds are less, probably because the terrain isn't as good.

Great Mountain with great terrain, including some steep glades(if ever Open), and verious groomed expert and natural terrain(if ever open) off the dimond express double(if ever open, and its not really an express lift) Negatives: the resort is old, not like charming old just old lifts, and loges and other various buildings need upgrade and im not a big fan of them calling there old double an express its not a detauble new lift dont let the website fool you and it is very old and kind of slow as mentioned below bershire east is no beautiful charming resort but its great for expert skiers who dont want to go all the way to vermont to ski some great steep glades and trails, if they ever get snow which is not very often. As mentioned bellow bershire east is a skiers mountain wouldent recomment taking the family unless the whole family skies

Berkshire East has a good working vertical. I grew up skiing in So. VT and was longing for the same small area experience for my children. Here it is. I have not found any other area in the region that delivers the same.

A skier's mountain. Worth the trip if you don't feel like driving to VT or further north and no lines

As a local, here's my review of the area. Berkshire east can be either decent or poor depending on the winter. But for a Massachusetts ski area it has some great, steep terrain. Never was a fan of skiing at Massachusetts mountains, but this is the one place I will go. Night skiing is always a good yet novel time. If there is a good winter, the Spring skiing isn't too bad either. The value is great as well, you won't get stripped from your cash as much as you would further north.
