I visited Blue Hills on a weekday morning. I had gone snowboarding a number of times in the past but wanted to take a formal lesson. I was pleased to pay $21 for a full day pass, and only $25 for a group lesson. Because it was a weekday, there were literally only about 10 people on the mountain, and I ended up getting a private lesson for the group rate. Despite the poor weather we'd had within the past week, the conditions were actually great, and the snow was very well groomed. My instructor was fabulous, very encouraging and patient, and every single staffer I met was extremely friendly and accomodating. The lodge is cozy and their snack bar seemed to offer quite a variety. The mountain is small but it's perfect for someone like me who doesn't need a ton of trails and is just looking for a place to practice and learn, (without having to go too far from the city.) It was very easy to find and the feel was very laid back and friendly. I would definitely recommend this ski area, especially for a beginner/ semi-beginner like myself. I hope to be back very soon.
I skiied with my 5 year old there last saturday evening. The location from Boston is hard to beat and there were no lift lines. Several of the trails were closed because of an issue with the lights, but the main trail off the lift was open and was more than enough for my little guy.
It's a great place for kids and to learn. The rental shop is clearly geared towards those who are new to skiiing and snowboarding and the lesson prices are very reasonable. Lift prices are 1/2 to 1/3 of that at larger resorts.
There is a snack bar area and a "pro shop" if you need gloves, hats, etc. Also in the lodge is a wood burning fireplace and large screen plasma TV. I noticed many parents watching the football game at the lodge while their teenagers where snowboarding/skiing.
Overall a very affordable family-oriented ski hill!

It's a tiny mountain with maybe two hundred feet of vertical and barely any snowmaking capability.

Blue Hills ski area is nice place for people who want to learn how to ski. It also offers terrian for expert skiers, such as the main trail off the summit named Big Blue. But the reason many people visit Blue Hills is because of it's location. It is only 15 minutes from downtown Boston. Even though it is so close to Boston, it is uncrowed.
