Don't listen to them, Catamount is a great ski area. It lacks crowds, it usually has snow, it has much more interesting terrain than Ski Butternut and real trails (like Catapult). It has 4 freestyle parks as well. Nice atmosphere, and it's worth the drive (unless you live real far away). I guarantee you you'll enjoy it.

Horrable, terrable, so many bare spots and so much ice. I dont know what the people below are talking about, maybe they work for the resort or know someone who does. But I can tell you, it's all hype. Drive an hour further north for real skiing, any place but here. Condistion are not ever reported as they are. Hate to break the news to the cat but "ice" is not packed powder. Ship this place and save your money, a headache and a big dissapointment. I had a season pass this year, my first time, skied once cause of thier conditions mis rep'd all the time. What a waste of money.

Less crowded than it's closest neighbor, Butternut. (Less buses). A few more challenging slopes, but not as many intermediate runs. Catapult may be steep but it is usually icy (like many natural Mogul runs). The main lodge is dark and crowded, stick with the 'tent'. The food is bad even by ski standards.
A very good place for families. Enough trails and terrain parks for the young kids without getting lost. The town is non-existent however.

i live close to catamount and have been to mts. across the hudson like bel aire and hunter and i done some other stuff in New england an i prefer catamount. i hate ppl that say catamount is s***. i love to ride catamount, i did the whole pres week. was a little crowded on the mass side but the quad lift to ridge run to walters way to the half pipe rocked. must have done that 20 times. the park wasnt lookin to bad. unfortunately i missed the pipe jam on sunday. the food wasnt bad but why doesthat matter you go to ride not to eat. i f***in love to ride catamount!!!!!!!!

I live in the Berkshire, im practiclly a walk away from catamount. I think its the best around here. Great trails, friendly workers, and despite all the tourists (which i suppose is a good thing) its deffinatly the place to be.

Been skiing catamount all season and they seem to do great with whatever conditions mother nature throws at them.

Skied Catamount twice, week of Jan 5th thru the 12th. A mixed bag weather wise, very warm mid week (60's!!)so the conditions weren't great, not their fault & we were impressed with the grooming and snow-making for a small "Budget" resort to make up for it. $20 mid-week lifts, same as Butternut & Bousquet so the price is certainly right. Plenty of kids and adults, nice set-up for young kids and no waiting on lines! No frills from the lodge, rough is the best description of the lunch/table areas, food was better than Butternut though, if a bit pricey. More trails and more lifts operating than Butternut so this was the preferred spot in that area. Drove by Jiminy Peak, it was a zoo, but looked good from the street! Hillsdale NY had some limited spots for food/lodging but you're better off in Gt. Barrington for that angle. Great ski shop- Kenver's on the way there, stop in for last minute stuff!

I just skied Catamount this saturday and ive gotta say that even with the notorious january thaw the conditions were pretty good for new york. the coverage was great considering they had a week of 50 degree weather, barely any bare spots on open trail, just some hay on trafficked areas. they had a well maintained learning area and a couple of cruisers with a 2ft+ base. Once you got off those it was thinner though. they had a pretty sick park set up too, spent most of the day on that and had a blast couldve used some harder features though. warm temps = soft landings. ive been too mountains like stratton and okemo and ive gotta say catamount was the most fun ive had on a board. theyve got friendly employees and a fun little mountain to spend the day (or night) at. cafeteria was expensive food wasnt great but who goes skiing for the food? some of the little kids are annoying but what can u do? overall a pretty fun place.

catamount is the place to be. It's a great place for beginners and advanced skiers and boarders! The staff are very friendly and will always lend a helping hand. If you are planning to go to catamount and you live out of the area i woud reccomend staying at the Sylvannus lodge in hillsdale or the comfort inn in great barrington. Also try to bring your own food because the food in the lodge at catamount is very expensive. The best time to go to catamount is during the week, night skiing. There aren't half as many people and most of the trails are open. Also avoid going to catamount before christmas because the snow is usually packed powder that as HUGE ICE CHUNKS! But check this awesome place out. And people that say it stinks.... u are wrong! Let me tell you, i live down the road and the staff at catamount are always friendly and the trails are fun and awesome to ski and board. So leave catamount haters! Cause catamount rocks!

I have read the other reviews and was very dissapointed by what people wrote. I have skied CA,CO,MT,MI,MA,NH,NY,OH,PA,VT,UT,WV and Canada. No this is not the best place on earth it does not claim to be. It is great for what it is, close to the tri-state area, not crowded, not expensive, good varied terain. Yes the conditions can be iffy, the conditions have been iffy in New England for as long as I have been skiing(25 yrs.+). Don't forget mother nature is envolved and things change hour by hour and skier by skier. Perfection is out west, if you get enough days in close to home you will find some near perfect days. In contrast to what others wrote, people in general are friendly at Catamount, if you don't believe me go spend a couple days at Hunter over a weekend. Bottom line this place is great for what it is!
