I live just north of Lexington, Kentucky. We have skiied at Perfect North probably a total of 9 days over the last 3 winters. I am very happy to have a place to ski just 1 hour and 15 minutes away. That said, you have to adjust your expectations if you are used to skiing out west. If you live within an hour of two of Perfect North and can hand-pick the days that you go based on recent and current weather, you can have a great time there. If you pre-plan a "Ski Vacation" there, you may be very dissapointed since conditions can vary wildly. But that is similar to any skiing in the midwest. They have plenty of snowmaking equipment and do the best that can be expected with the local weather.
I grew up skiing out west, but my wife and kids learned how to ski at Perfect North. The instructors were very, very good and the kids always say their instructor was "super nice" or "awesome".
Tends to be crowded on the weekends, but very good during the week (but don't people say that about EVERY ski area?). My biggest gripe is that there seems to be no patrol policing the nuts skiing at speeds way beyond their abilities and beyond reason considering the busy slopes. In two days, my wife, son, and daughter were all clobbered by out of control, too-fast skiiers/snowboarders overtaking them. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Someone needs to police the areas where trails converge. The "slow" sign doesn't cut it.
If you make an effort to ski the longest runs available, take your time traversing the slope, and encounter short lift lines - then the 400' vertical isn't TOO bad. My kids absolutely love it and I enjoy watching them have a good time. Because Perfect North is so convienent for us, I'm sure that we will probably run up there on occasion when the conditions seem just right for a day of skiing. But now that my wife and kids have learned to ski, we will probably plan trips to West Virginia (or possibly bigger trips to Vermont) to seek out more vertical and a little more "atmosphere".
Oh yeah - the rental room STINKS!! yech.

I haven't been there in years so somebody correct me where I'm wrong. Apre ski? When I was there, the lodge had no bar. In fact, I think it was in a dry county. Aspen? Toss that guys' review. Im saving the best for last. The skiing! PNS had the best slopes of the few areas I checked out in the vicinity of Dayton. Snowtrails, Mad River Mountain, etc. I understand Mad River is totaly different than when I was there so beats me what that place is like now.

I just returned from a trip to Perfect North with my wife and 5 year old son, Feb 24-26 2008. I have been out west and to Canada snowboarding several times, this year we couldnt make a long trip so we were looking for something close to home.P/N is 280 miles from us (Nashville). This was my first experience with man made snow. I was very surprised, it did snow the day before we went out, I dont know how much that effected the conditions, I dont think a whole lot but it did make for nice scenery, where everything was white around us. Anyway, I stayed at the Comfort Inn in Lawrenceburg, new hotel and very nice. Simple and reasonable, 2 lift tix included at 149.00 per night.
Our first day was a Sunday, we got there in the late afternoon around 4PM it was very busy, we didnt ski that day. Monday we returned at 9:30 AM and it felt like we were the only ones there, very cool! We rented skis for my son, like another reviewer stated the smell in the rental facility is horrible, I dont know what the heck that is but I would address it if it were my place! Since it was basically my first time renting anything I thought they could have been more helpful, all very young people working and just hanging around talking to each other. They pointed me in the direction of the boots and said find his size. It is very bizarre to just place your wet boots back on the rack, seems very unsanitary, next time I'll take some Lysol.
Other than that, the ski'ing was awesome. My sons instructor was very nice. I took a snowboard lesson from jan, he was very cool and very helpful. I guess because I have been to places like Whistler/Blackcomb and the likes, I didnt expect much from this place, so I was really surprised, I thought it was pretty nice other than the funky rental situation. Guys fix that stink! HAHA (no really kill it before it grows)
I really enjoyed myself as did my son and wife. I will return next year for a quick and inexpensive trip.

I did not have the best experience at Perfect North. I may not have went on the best day of the year, in fact the conditions were horrible. Surely there would be some kind of discounted ticket, since not even the longest lift was running, and the trails were basically ice. For what today was it was way overpriced. Then, when I went to rent, I had no help, and was told to go find a pair of boots for my snowboard. Apparently when the day is done you just take your wet, sweaty boots and place them back on the rack with all the other mismatched pairs. So I had to stick my hand in and test 15 boots before I found a dry pair. My friend skiing unfortunately trusted the first pair she wore, and within an hour the wet boots got really cold. The snowboard rental equipment was bottom of the line, and the whole area had a terrible smell to it.
After a few runs we decided to go inside, and warm up by the fire. And after seeing some very nice, friendly, comforting ski lodges, Perfect North reminded me of a run down high school cafeteria, which was way overcrowded. We tried to sit by the fire, and after cleaning off a messy table we were close, but the building was almost as cold inside as outside, so it didn't really help.
I have gone skiing in worse conditions, but had a much better time, because first of all, the resort personnel at other places were knowledgeable enough to give discounted lift tickets, and the whole atmosphere of other ski resorts is much more pleasant.
I feel bad that people here pay MORE than they would at an incredible small mountain resort where the would experience real snow, knowledgeable staff, quality equipment rentals, cleaner lodge areas, and smaller lift lines.
For today's trip, Perfect North could never justify charging 65 dollars for rental and lift tickets, which is what we paid. Maybe if the conditions are okay, but even then, you get cheap rental equipment, you are waiting in long lift lines, and you do not get that sense of excitement you do in a nice, comforting ski town. The experience there is lacking all of the small subtleties that make a ski trip a memorable experience. One more thing is the quality of skiers on average there only make the conditions worse since they just brake down the whole hill, exposing more ice each time they are snowplowing down on an edge. My friend actually got cut off and ran off the snow into the grass at one point, and I had to avoid way more people than I ever have in my 10 years snowboarding.
I understand that the options in the area are not the greatest, but Perfect North, for the amount they are charging, and the quality of the lodge, and the rental equipment, and the knowledge of the staff, should either cost half as much, or they should do some serious upgrading to justify a 65 dollar day, even in good conditions.

Perfect North Slopes is a great place for me to hang out and enjoy my weekends. Last year i went to Snowshoe mountain in West Virginia and i will admit PNS doesn't compare to that. But PNS is a great place and i love it! I have been skiing for 6 years and PNS is were i learned. They have great teachers and for a cheap cheap price. I recommend Perfect North Slopes to everyone. You need to check it out this winter!!!

I visited Perfect North Slopes last Saturday and it was FANTASTIC! Although the lift lines were somewhat long (it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon), the place is awesome! The runs were great for a southeastern Indiana ski resort. All the employees I encountered were well mannered and ready to help anyone with any question. I was in the terrain park a little bit, and for the little while I was in there I was amazed. The lips to EVERYTHING are cut to perfection. The jumps were nice sized for the atheletes that were there. All in all I had a truly great time and they should keep up the great work.
perfect north is a great place to go with friends and family and have a good time. their slopes are great and fun to ride. i think they should start having some trick competitions on their terrain park. Perfect North is the BEST!
