It is steep and long and the weather is usually mild. No real terrain park and not a lot of powder days over the season, however north of town in the backcountry is much better. it does not have the fun easy going spirit that other ski resorts have like a previous post has mentioned about all the international workers. This resort is actually a lot of fun in summer, and worth a visit then. Ketchum is a great town which is closer to the mountain then sun valley resort. Not a lot of crazy fun nightlife, but it is nice to relax in the numerous bars/restaurants in Ketchum after being active all day... the best restaurant has to be rickshaw.

Sun Valley is the absolute most fabulous place I have ever been. The locals are so friendly, the skiing is tops, the shops are amazing, the dining superb, the lodging incredible, all in all a definite must go to place. When you are skiing and it is snowing and you look around and everywhere there is great billowing powder and everyone is smiling and laughing and having the times of their lives- you know you've found a true paradise! Some people might say the apres ski isn't that great but they obviously don't know where to go- try Apples, Whiskey Jaques, etc.

Great place if you can afford the ski experience. Locals have changed and the area doesn't seem as friendly as 20 years ago. Miss the ski bum workers that have been replaced by International young people that, for the most part, are only here to make money to take back home. They seem lonely and there isn't the jovial, "everyone skis" attitude that used to be in the valley.
Food is excellent at almost all restaurants and there are places to dine to fit every budget. (not that the Macdonalds crowd can afford to come for even a day)
Apre' ski is not fun and there is something missing in that area. Not enough live entertainment to fill out a week's stay and not anything worth mentioning. Seems to be missing the zest that was once made this area legendary. Too bad!

The Pros: The single greatest fall line I've ever skied. This Mountain has it all and the resort delivers on all levels. The locals are some of the best skiers I've seen. No lift lines.
The Cons: The cons aren't really cons - price is high but you get what you pay for here. and sure it's hard to get to, but that's why there are no lift lines.

Sun Valley has the runs! The mountain has lots of steep runs that keep going steep for a long time. This means that there are a lot of good skiers and boarders on this hill. Not much in the extreme beginner runs, but if you can get down the hill, you will have plenty of great terrain. Many runs are covered by fancy, state-of-the-art snowmaking, so the snow is great most of the year. Many runs are groomed nightly by a fleet of snow cats, that really make the snow nice. Lots of high speed, detachable quads, and no lift lines, so you will get up the hill fast. Great restaurants on the mountain that are a cut above most ski areas. Did I mention that it is never crowded?
The apres ski scene is not the greatest. The local bars don't hire nationwide talent, but they still seem to pack the small dance floors. The town at the base of the lifts is Ketcum, where most of the resaruants and bars are located. Sun Valley city itself is a mile away, and the night life there is mostly jazz clasics in vintage opulent decor.
Large variety of great restaurants in Sun Valley and the nearby towns of Ketcum and Hailey. There are hotels in each town as well. Hailey is 12 miles from the ski hill, and so has cheaper services, but comuting to the ski hill will be in rush hour traffic.
This resort is not cheap, but you get a lot for your dollar. Lots of movie stars and extremely wealthy folks have vacation homes in the area, so there are a lot of upscale support businesses available.
Sun Valley has opened for its 71st ski season! I have been skiing Sun Valley since I was 3 years old, now almost 28 years later I have never found myself disappointed in fact it has only gotten better! If anyone remembers how long it used to take to ride Warm Springs and Limelight to the top of Baldy we should all be thanking the Holdings for Challenger. Great lifts, fantastic on-moutain food and day lodges Sun Valley is truly enchanting. And then on top of all the amenities there is what we really come for the great skiing, perfect grooming, always great snow, and no crowds.
If you are looking for great apres-ski then Ketchum has more than its fare share of great venues...Grumpy's, The Pio, Apple's, just to name a few and of course my personal favorite late night locale The Casino.
If you haven't been to Sun Valley you need to go. It is the quintessential American ski resort, it is what all the rest strive to be.
An enchanting resort with a ton of history. Lot's of great terrain, a beautiful hotel, Sun Valley should on every skiers list of places to ski at least once. Lot's of nice restaurants in Ketchum the town adjacent to Sun Valley resort.
