I grow so tired of whining yuppies. Oh I had to pay for a flight into Spokane or a taxi from there to Sandpoint. I am so sorry you have all this money and time to use on blowing hot air! Some of us are unable to even afford the gear we need to ride. Schweitzer has the best and friendliness group of employees that you will ever meet. On top of the surrounding beauty of the mountain. Im sorry all you see is the parking lot (last thing on my mind when im going skiing is the parking lot). This was one of the best seasons that there has been and if you were there any day it was open this season you would have been riding some of the best snow in the northwest. Understanding why management would not keep the mountain open for one whining lost soul would take your understanding of seasonal resort business! Obviously not happening with someone so uneducated. So, you go to Jackson Hole in your new SUV or take that direct flight and leave me with my undercrowded mountain paradise.

A loyal local rider

Schweitzer Rocks! Very underrated and still undiscovered. Am expert skier and love the mountain. Came from Mammoth, was over the crowds and how fast it got tracked out. Also alpine mountains like Mammoth and Bachelor always have the top closed due to wind anyway. Schweitzer has great steeps if you know where to look; so much extra terrain for fresh tracks in the out of bounds and its simple to ski back to lifts. Vibe is great, people want to be here and there is virtually no attitude. Can ski freshies several days after a storm. Snow amount is always underreported - 2-3 inches can mean 6-12 on back side. Nightlife is also good- great parties around the mountain, at the new St Bernard, and Taps.

Schweitzer rocks! As a local, I was offended by the presumptuous comments of the April 8 poster who slammed a pretty competent Schweitzer management team for not keeping the resort open longer. Anyone who pontificates from that level of rarefied atmosphere should know that management's problem with extending the season is STAFF! They are seasonal workers and have committed to other jobs for the spring and summer. But, ya'll come back, hear!

This was our first year skiing Schweitzer. First off, let me just say that getting there is half the battle. It is not easy. There are no commuter flights or bus shuttles into Sandpoint, So you must rent a car in Spokane (add a few hundred bucks) or take a taxi (also a few hundred bucks). Even the larger hotels do not offer shuttle service. In addition the parking sucks big time. Once you get there it is a twenty minute drive from town to the ski area. So in terms of night life add an hour! The skiiing is great on those rare days when the sun shines. Also consider that in the fall and spring it may be raining so bring a parka to go over your ski coat.
It would take a miracle for this area ever to be world class. I'm off to Jackson hole and Aspen...

I agree with the last review…. shame on Schweitzer for closing SO EARLY in the midst of prime winter. Winter continues – even in the lowlands – this year right into May. However, Schweitzer decides to take a knee. Note that truly world class resorts as well as other local mountains have found the formula to profitably stay open. This is just one more message by Schweitzer management to locals that we only care about real estate, forget the skiing. I long for the days when Schweitzer was run by skiers for skiers. Just watch early this coming winter when Schweitzer hypes up interest and begs us to come up and ski on rocks and dirt. Let’s all stay home and remind them that they chose to walk away from 160 inches of snow and many forfeited powder days.

We have to get this off our back… closing Schweitzer on April 6th with near record snowpack, continuing snowfall and after a season that started late reeks of management inflexibility.

We have heard all of the rationales such as: "we'll only get the season pass holders to come and we already have their money," and "we'll interest wanes this time of year as people take on other interests."

Come on! Don't blame declining interest on anyone but your marketing folks, and don't blame an inability to financially prosper on pass holders. And most lowlands are still under snow, so what other interest shall we pursue… too snowy, wet or soggy for golf!

There are creative ways to profitably stretch the season and make up for the somewhat late start. For example, current pass holders would welcome paying some discounted lift ticket during an "extended season." Perhaps by buying next year's passes now, folks could ski free during the "extended season." Perhaps shrink the hill to one or two lifts or just the front side. Perhaps limit the number of days. Come on, try being creative!

We recall many tough years when Schweitzer, with barely enough snow to stay open was begging its loyal faithful to support the struggling hill. And now in good times, you say with 160+ inches of coverage… that's all folks. Hey management... we have memories!

By closing in a seemingly cavalier way, we question whether to renew our season passes next year. Other local resorts have found themselves with the creativity and flexibility to keep their hills open at least on on weekends to enjoy this record year of snow.

Pass holders this year have had virtually no spring skiing experience at Schweitzer since they chose to shut the hill down with prime winter conditions with a tremendous amount of snow.

Schweitzer is a quality place, but after their abrupt closing, one must question their customer focus, flexibility and drive to deliver value.

After being out of the area for twenty four years I returned to Schweitzer only to be completely amazed at the growth of not only the village but the added lifts and skiable area. The high speed chairs make it fast and easy to ski the complete mountian including accessing the Outback lodge. I have retuned eight times this year and intend to buy a seanson pass for 2008-9 , it's well worth the extra drive from where live.

I just skied at Schweitzer and had a marvelous time. You have a wonderful mountain. The folks are so friendly.

I would like to suggest that you post the names of the runs. As a new customer had a hard time knowing what run I was on.

See you next year.

LOVED IT!!!! Couldn't see it due to fog and snow. Excellent terrain, short lift lines, friendly folk. Wish I lived closer, I'd make it a regular stop. To those who call it home, appreciate it...it's a gem!!!
