Bogus Basin is my home mountain, so I will of course be a bit prejudice. Tamarack is fantastic at getting you through the line and to the snow quickly, what more could a girl want, and with the beautiful enviroment you can't miss. But if you want your butt to pucker as you drop down something sweet and steep you won't find much at Tamarack.

Interesting reading the other reviews... Here's my take: I skied 62 days so far this season, and of those 26 have been at Tamarack (13 at Brundage, 16 at Bogus, and the remainder out of state) . Of course, it has been a "banner" snow year in Idaho, but even the past few years when it has not been, the snow at Tamarack was great. The lines at Bogus, and the rutted parking and road is a bummer, and all the more reason to drive to Tamarack. Tamarack has virtually no lift line but an abundance of awesome terrain to ski! It's not perfect, but it IS a great, fun, ski hill! Runs are long and not too boring for advanced skiers, but novices can ski most of them as well - making skiing with friends of differing ability levels possible (and there IS decent vertical to be found!). The lift staff is great, too! Very friendly and cheerful! That's the hill and staff - too bad the rest of the experience is not up to par. The so called lodge is a joke, and the fact that "common" folk/families cannot take coolers or lunch bags inside is ridiculous! The special area for "members only" is a joke as well, and should be eliminated. The barmaid is a floozy rude old thing -sorry I even spent a dime there. Tamarack provides little decent live music or anything to do apres ski. Too bad they didn't build a nice lodge with river rock and a great fireplace/pit (yes, Sun Valley style, if you will) with a place for music, before starting the condos. Making people WANT to b e there and have an enjoyable experience would have done wonders for the "village." Even so, I love to ski Tamarack and actually hope it stays open, fairly unchanged, so the people will flock elsewhere, and the non-existant lift lines will continue!

First off, this place feels like you are skiing at a real-estate office rather than a resort. if enjoy a cozy neighborhood feel for your ski trips this is not the place. I was really turned off right away almost first thing with the imported snob feel I got from this place. When I bought my ticket the girl at the counter asked me if I had been to the resort before, and I smiled and said “I had not.” She continued to point out runs for me to go 'experience' but all of them she was pointing to were green beginner runs. I just kind of looked at her for a minute to make sure she was serious, and then I realized I wasn't wearing a $500.00 parka and was wearing relatively plain gear that is a few years old, which must be what prompted the assumption that I was a novice. The second problem I ran into is when we all headed into the lodge to eat our lunch. We were turned back and told we could not bring lunch boxes or coolers of any kind into the lodge but we were welcome to sit outside in the snow to eat. So basically you have to buy your lunch there if you want a warm place to eat it. Lame... Really Lame.... especially after forking over around $200 for the family to ski. Now here is the third problem with my experience at Tamarack. The runs are just not that great! They are loaded with flat spots and most are barley steep enough to push you through the thick powder and if you head into the trees you WILL get stuck. On top of that, they built the runs on an east facing slope behind a lake where heavy snow is blown over the summit and creates heavy drift build up and avalanche danger. We spent all day listening to crews blast away all day with dynamite trying to eliminate avalanche danger. We were warned over and over not to go into the trees on the top runs and stay away from the smumit's more intense black diamond runs because of snow instability. I don’t imagine I will visit this place much from here out.

Go see what the rest of Idaho has to offer, you’ll be happy you did!

Tamarack is going in a MAMMOTH MTN direction... You can see the start of the building gone wild here too.. The ticketless turnstyle speeds up the lift line nicely...Beautiful scenery, just wish the lift would go up the mtn backwards... XXX TAMARACK NEEDS TO THIN THE TREES! XXX Had to hike out twice, because there was no way out! Could be the "BEST IN THE WEST" if they would do some logging...

I had an amazing time at Tamarack! I've never experienced skiing without lines before. Now that I've been spoiled I think any mountain in Tahoe will just frustrate me now.

Tamarack is a nice resort that is close enough to home to make a day trip out of it. They have good parks and jumps set up all over the mountain that makes it great for freestyle riders. The terrain in average with limited expert terrain which leaves you wanting a bit more of a challenge. The base of the resort is just over 4000 feet and doesn't get enough snow. With 2800 feet of vertical drop the runs a long enough to get a little leg burn. Thee lift lines are short if they even exist. Tamarack is no Utah resort but decent enough.

Went there twice in 2007 with the family. This place is magic. Park City has been our regular area of boarding/skiing - but the experience of Tamarack made us appretiate what a smaller and not overrun resort can offer. The kids had a blast, and we felt comfortable to let them explore on their own. First class equipment, and a great staff all around.

Backcountry, trees/powder runs are truly outstanding, groomed downhill terrain is very nice ( and NOT overrun...) , but not the most challenging.Still absolutely perfect for the family - something for everyone. I forsee us spending a lot of time in Tamarack! I hope that more and more runs will open up over the years, as I can see this place becoming one of the premier ski resorts in the US!

Apres ski is more on the calm side of things - but this placce is still growing - let's see what 2008 will bring!

Right away I noticed that Tamarack is nice. It has nice new lifts. I had a 5 dollar Corona at one of the so called bars on the mountain. The snow on the Mountain that day was really good; 12 inches of new pow. I looked at the map and saw their double black diamond area over in the area of "After You" or something like that. I was excited to have some sort of a challenge. Nope not here. They definitely overrate their runs, and as soon as you think you are having an excellent time, the mountain peters out. The elevation of the lower portion is not high enough to sustain good snow conditions that often. The park was almost as good a Schweitzer's, but pretty darn good in comparison to Brundage. Overall the mountain does not ski that well, but if you are learning, it is a good place. It has a ritzy feel. This was during the 05-06 season. Hopefully they have opened up more terrain since then. I heard that if you ski off the backside or somewhere out of bounds that they will pick you up if you call them.

East Caosters, Park Rats, and Movie Stars will be pleased, but will enjoy it much more when the road is better.

Its the best experience I`ve ever had at a ski resort, the people were so friendly, the slopes are awsome. I`ve been to vail, park city, deer valley, aspen, and beleive me none of this places have the quality of runs and space that Tamarack has. It is brand new and I beleive that in 5 to 10 years this could very well be the finest ski resort in America.

The snowboarding today was great until afternoon when my friends and I went into the lodge to get a drink and came out 5 min. latter only to find that of all the 20 or so boards in the rack someone decided my board looked new and good enough for them to steal. After contacting security and filing a complaint I was told I probally would never retrieve it as they have no camers by the board racks. I find that strange since every building up there says that every resort event is being taped. I went home and told my big Brother who is a policeman in town and he said not again they just had a Sh_t load stole up there last weekend. It seems to me if they have a bunch of theives up there stealing everyone's snow board they would tighten up security at Tamarack to keep the Publicity down on they have no lockups for your boards or ski's and you cannot take your equipment indoors while you eat or go to the restroom while sking. THAT SUCKS IT WAS A BRAND NEW BOARD, I am a local and worked all summer to buy that new board, and season pass. This is my second season pass and I think next year I will find something else to do with my summer work money like go snockeling.
