A traditional village linked by chair to a largely intermediate ski area, Panticosa was part of a four-resort Spanish bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympics. Snow-making was introduced in the early 1990s and the ski area drastically increased in size in recent years with a doubling of uplift, including four new chairs and an eight passenger gondola, taking the ski terrain up a further 650 feet. Formerly extending from a base at 1530 metres up to 2000 metres, it now goes all the way up to 2220 metres, giving a healthy maximum vertical of 690 metres.

At the same time the ski terrain has more or less doubled to 34km (21 miles) of trails, most of it split evenly between easy and intermediate terrain, with 3.2km (two miles) of blacks. If snow conditions are good the run back down to the village itself at 1154 metres is nearly 10km (six miles) in length. Extensive snow making with more than 80 snow guns help to keep cover good.

Off slope facilities include an outdoor pool, and a discothèque. There are 7 restaurants and 10 bars in the resort and day care is available for children aged 2 and up.
