The lady that posted on February 11th, 2008, should have taken her kids skiing if she was going to mountain high... mt high is a skii and snowboarding resort that restricts snow play so that the snow can stay in tact for the riders. Mt high also cannot control the national park, those people parked on the side of the road have those adventure passes that allows them to just stop and explore the mountain. Being the closest and easiest mountain to get to for the LA area, it usually gets crowded with them around Jan 1st - Feb 20th. My suggestion, is just to avoid the weekends, and go to mt high on a weekday. Trust me, the expirence is ALOT different.
When I first started going there, I started out with friends, and we purchased the six pack. Which was a good deal, but... i had never ridden before, so the experience wasn't so great. So I purchased their "3-peat to success package" which was an awesome package, and I would recommend it to any beginner. It included lift tickets, rentals, and a 2hour lesson, for every day(for three days), then you would get an 8-hour lift ticket for the fourth. VERY GOOD DEAL. And I must say, the lessons really help out alot. Within my third visit, I was already hitting up the blue square runs, and now, about a month after, I can carve the black diamonds with ease. If you do end up taking a lesson there, I suggest requesting Bruce. Bruce is the best! took him for 2/3 lessons, and he really helps push you into succeeding (I think its because hes soo energetic for being 70yrs old, -_(O.o)_- ). If your starting out, get the 3peat pkg, it literally does turn you into an all mountain enthusiast.
Overall, mthigh is a really good ski/snowboard resort for being soo close to the LA area. Ive been too the Big Bear resorts as well, and trust me, the easier drive to mthigh is worth coming to. But I suggest to avoid the crowded weekends, and come out on a weekday for a limited wait in lift lines. And BTW, I dont consider Mammoth being in Southern California, so I wont compare it to mthigh, but as far as the local LA area ski resorts, mthigh is by far the better one. Hope this review helps.

It is what it is!! if you live in So Cal you can't beat the drive. 1.5 hrs from Huntington Beach. The conditions are not the best, but for me I can go have a 2-3 hr session and still make to work on time. The park is fun with a good range of features for the newbee to the intermiediate, but if you want to go BIG you should probably go to Bear Mt. So for what it is....I give it a 9 out of 10.

It was the worst experience we've ever had. Can't find parking; hundreds of cars parked on road illegally; could not take children tubing without long waits so that in a 2 hour period they might get one to two quick rides for $18.; very few flat places to just let children see and play in snow; masses of people who seem to have no respect for nature and the care of it. Owners must only be interested in making money rather than creating a positive experience for people who drive two hours for that experience! Will never go back.
Spent the day up there yesterday, Monday, with my son and his two friends. we had a great time. OK, it had just dumped 2 feet of pow the night before so there was snow-a-plenty. Friendly staff and nice people. Yes, this is a snowboard hill so skiers be aware that you will be outnumbered, 15:1.
I'm over 40 and spent quite some time chatting with the local boarders, replete with their bandannas and oversize t-shirts who we're nothing but gracious and informative. Yes, they're a proud bunch, but they had no problem telling me, a first timer, where all the good runs we're located as well as what to avoid. Seemed extremely family friendly to me. I saw no line cutting or bad behavior as described in many of the posts......and this was on one of the best snow days in 5 years. I could see however, how it could get crowded on a weekend given it's proximity to LA and perhaps create some friction between the locals and the "guests". My suggestion....avoid weekends if you don't like crowds but do go to Mtn. High. It's terrific.

Sitting here reading the reviews on this resort and i wonder why people think mt.high sucks! I've been boarding at this place since 1992. This resort has come a long ways compared to present. I remember when you could count the amount of boarders on one hand back when everybody thought boarding was for hippys, punks and thugs!! Mt.high might not be as up to date compared to bear resorts but for the price and drive it's worth it. The only complaint i have is that it gets to pack on holiday weekends but thats every resort south of mammoth. So stop hating on a good mtn!!

Mt high is a great place to go! Yeah it's crowded on the weekends but what do you expect? It's so close to LA and all surrounding areas. This season has been great with 3 feet of snow fall. The terrain park is great and the faultline staff is amazing and does a great job!! Patrol is always courteous and a big help to everyone! If you guys don't like it go somewhere else.

I had a fun at Mountain High. Their are some fun runs not very long but fun. Be sure to go when it is not too warm my second day on the mountain it was more like wake boarding than snowboarding. But make no mistak it is not a family resort. The place is over run by local teens smokeing weed and swearing like sailors. If you have kids or scare easy I would try Big Bear!

The mountain has a good amount of downhill runs, especially in the east resort. The resort is very family-friendly and overall, is great.

Much better this year around! New website, better lift lines but this mtn still has their locals that think they own the mtn.
An adult skier asked some kids where they were going in the lift line and was told by a young snowboarder that they were locals and they had the right to cut and continued to go to the front of the line.
The lower end staff was immature but ski patrollers were highly commendable for their services and maturity in helping others that had issues coming down the mtn.

I was happily surprised. Big Bear is too much driving from LA, and Mount Baldy is a scam. I used half of the $50.00 / 200 point card that is valid all season, so it's by far the best deal in socal. East side was nice and quiet, the west side was a little more crowded. I will definitely be coming back.
