I just went boarding at JUNE MOUNTAIN on March 2, '08, and it has become my favorite mountain in California, short of Tahoe. It's a shame I live all the way in San Diego, or I'd buy a season pass. Sure Mammoth is awesome, but the friendly people (skiers, boarders, and resort staff), and zero wait at the lifts (On a weekend! Meanwhile, my friends were at Mammoth whining about 10-15 min. waits) is reason enough for me to drive right on past Mammoth and go for June! Every single person who works at June Mountain is awesome; From the person who sold me my lift ticket, to the lift operators, repair shop dudes, cafeteria staff, or the lady who scanned my ticket- I was really amazed by their hospitality and friendliness. Lift operators were especially cool. The dude at the bottom of chair 6 was always like, "What up!" And the cute girl running chair 4 in the afternoon always sent you up on the lift with the biggest smile.
As far as the skiers/boarders, everyone was so polite and courteous it was surreal. So often did I see people sitting to the side, resting on slopes and more often than not other skiers and boarders would stop and ask them if they are alright. This was a sharp contrast to the things I witnessed at SNOW SUMMIT the previous weekend, where a 12-yr-old girl had fallen and some kids on their snowboards kicked a bunch of snow onto her as they passed. Also, whenever I found myself riding a lift with some random skier/boarder, I noticed that they always wanted to chat.
The terrain was always entertaining, there are a lot of runs to choose from, but beware of the green runs because some of them get so flat for so long that it's irritating. Stick to the intermediates and diamonds and you'll have a blast.
Have fun and bring the family and friends! See you there!

June is an awsome place to ride. No crowds, awsome friendly people who work there, and as of late january as much snow as Mammoth! Yes last year sucked, only open for 20+ crappy days. You have to learn to ride June especially on a board, as it has a few flat spots, but on a decent powder day I drive PAST Mammoth to enjoy all the fresh powder turns all day long without fighting for it. Get it before it zoos out as Interwest is planning a new village at the base. And enjoy one of the best views in the eastern sierras!
I went early to June, before the face was open, and found it to be a good alternative to Mammoth for a few less $$$. I don't do apres ski stuff, so just a good hill is what I want, and it was good except for the initial lift...slower than any i have ever riden!!! They definitely need some express lifts and a gondola...

I used to work for Mammoth and loved riding at June. June is a great mountain and all I do is snowboard. June is alot smaller than Mammoth with a great vibe. One of the best half pipes you will ever find, can find the pros riding @ June any given day. June has a great view and some of the most fun parks you can find. I like June Mtn. maybe you will too, maybe not, it's up to you to decide.

June sucks! It's flat and it never snows. Mammoth gets way more snow and is by far a better mountain. June is especially bad for boarders. Too many flat spots and no decent terrain. This is your grandmas' mountain. No nightlife here either, don't bother.

We have been to Mammoth now 4 times from the UK. OK if the snow is thin right now, that is bad! But each Easter Monday we ahve been to JUne - think the best days you could imagine at Glen Coe - great skiing, great snow, no people AND a place to eat how stew as you gaze at the Sierra Nevada and Mono Lake - it does not get like this on Easter Day in Tignes! The peace, snow scenery, and lack of people make the flight and drive worth it! Last year on Easter Day we skied right down back to the car park at the end of the day. The access lift even feels like Glencoe in the 1980s! For apres ski drive to Lee Vining and go to the Diner, or 20 miles south of Mammoth go to Tom's place, or 5 miles south of Mammoth jump in the hot springs! On a hot day try Bodie Ghost town. Its "Hotel California" skiing!

man, i usually buy a season pass to june every year, but this year is for sure a waste. very thin snow, and a lot of flat areas. also, watch out for the little branches and rocks that appear from knowhere. got LOTS of useless scratches on my board.

Snow was thin and grabby lots of long flat runs have to skate most of the time, bad for boarders. Still have to ride the chair down to the bottom. Went there for two hours then left for Mammoth, they will let you pay the difference. When they have snow June is a good mountain just stay away from the flat green runs.
