Just a correction to an earlier post about A-Basin being part of Vail Resorts - it is not. A-Basin and Vail Resorts have a ticket/pass sharing arrangement only - and typically only one way. That is, your lift ticket from a Vail Resort's property will work at A-Basin (usually) but not the other way around.

As for the lift ticket prices in early or late season when there are fewer runs open, well there are still costs to start things up and keep things going. However, there are ways to minimize one's lift ticket prices by buying them anywhere else but the window. Local supermarkets and other outlets will sell lift tickets at a discount (at least here in Denver - have not checked in Summit County to see if the same discount holds true there) and often there are coupons available as well (Entertainment books, etc.). Also, if you were to come with 3 of your friends in the same car to the Basin you'd score a $41.00 lift ticket over the normal price of $58.00.

That said, there are few places you can ski a powder day in May - A-Basin is one of those places : ) In addition, my children have gone to several ski schools and they have consistently reported they enjoy the instructors at A-Basin over those they have had at other resorts. And, there are few mountains where you can go from what seems like a simple line to "where do I go from here" in a heartbeat. To all of you who have come down Leenawee and dropped into Falcon carrying some speed can attest : )

As far as "Apres" skiing, well, I've seen quite a bit at "The Beach" at A-Basin, but what better way to relax than having your own portable hot tub sitting not 100 yards from the nearest lift? It is what you make it and at A-Basin you can do things "they" won't let you do anywhere else. That is what makes it special - along with the great skiing, scenery, and snow... Enjoy.

Finally tried A-basin March 16th after having it recommended to me by multiple people. I had a great time....prices are reasonable and the riding tends to be a little higher level overall than some nearby resorts. The staff was great and free parking is a plus if you get there early enough. With the new bowl open there is tons of terrain. Only issue was the wind up top.....my god I bout lost my board once. If you are out this way you need to check it out.

My family and I went to A-Basin during the week of March 3rd. I have two young children aged 3.5 and 5.5. We had a great time. The snow was great, and the staff were very courteous and helpful. I put my kids in Ski half-day programs, and they had a good time.
The best thing about A-Basis, other than the snow itself,is the staff. The quality of their trainers is the best I have seen. Also the general staff are very courteous and accommodating. The first day my son came down with a fever right after we had purchased his 1/2 day training package (but before he started). When we went to school they refunded his package and my wife's tickets right away. Lesser resorts would at best give you a credit voucher.
Parking is free, and if you get early, or mid-week, you can find parking right at the base of the lifts, and there is also a 15 minute free "at the door" drop-off parking. We loved that since hauling two kids and their gear was a chore.
We didn't need rentals, but we did notice how conveniently located and staffed the rental facility was.
All in all, this is not a huge resort (like Keystone) but has great slopes, great snow, is very easy to get to once you park your car, and the staff are just the best.

A Basin is a great mountain..As are all colorado resorts on varying days. I've read reviews for many places. Any person who gives any colorado resort a negative review is ignorant.
Given the number of resorts here in Co there is something for everyone. Don't complain about Vail, Beaver Creek prices..They are world class resorts with high end accomadations and awesome terrain. If your on a budget you may select another destination. Most bad reviews come from inexperienced tourist that don't know the mountains. I've been to most resorts in the state and they all have pros and cons. If you want a family vibe check out keystone, breck, copper, Winter Park (which is great), if your lookin to spend some $$ and ski the best its Vail, Beav, Aspen, Telluride..If you want a backcountry feel then its loveland ski area, wolf creek, silverton, monarch. Or if u wanna ski free jus hit loveland pass..Dont bother with berthoud pass cause i will already b trackin it out..

I live in Colorado and have skied Breck, Keystone, Eldora, Sunlight and Winter Park. This January was my first time at A-Basin and I loved it. We went with another family, which made 8 total, 4 kids under 10 and 4 adults. First, parking is a dream, especially if you get there early. If not, you can easily move your vehicle a little later on for a prime spot, which is SO convenient compared to most other resorts. I loved the conditions the day we were there, and my two kids were learning and they had a great time on Molly Hogan. The Apres options were great, especially the lodge half way up the mountain. The base cafe was very packed, but we still managed fine at lunchtime. Everyone was happy and friendly and costs were unbeatable! I will go back again for sure!

I went skiing at A-Basin on Monday, 2/11, during a whiteout with dry snow that was quickly getting deep! It was an awesome experience for my first time there For what was open that day, I can't complain about the snow or the skiing. The lodge was nice to grab some grub in and the rentals was easy to do. The only thing I wish I knew before leaving was the closure of Loveland Pass, so I could go down through Silverthorn first instead of going up the hill to leave. Some sort of indication Loveland Pass was closed before leaving the area would've been nice. I'd ski A-Basin again faster than a heartbeat!

I haven't been to every ski area in North America, but I've been to a hell of a lot of them, and ABasin is at the very top, along with Jackson, Alta, Snowbasin, Jay and one or two more.
A Basin is just about the skiing, no messin' around with pretty, cash-sucking base villages, a'la' Beaver Creek, no juvenile "terrain" parks (the whole mountain is a terrain park!), just snow, steeps, and smiles. The staff is friendly, my 7 and 11 year olds loved the place, and the altitude gives it the best snow in the Summit County - Vail - Aspen area. The place has an Alta vibe - enjoy the act of skiing!

Thank you A-Basin!!!

That's cool if folks want to complain about what the Basin is not. All the more fun and elbow room for us who love it. If you want the Breck or Vail experience, go there & have a blast, but don't knock our area that we love for what it is and don't wish for it to change. And as for dog poo-I have never encountered any issues & I've been going there for 10 years. That's what's great about Colorado, there is a resort/ski hill for everyone; it may be the Basin, it may be Breck, either way; it's a good time, it's all about what you're looking for. Personally, if I were coming from out of town, it would be all about Copper or Winter Park.
