Just got back from Pamporovo, it was our first time skiing and can honestly say it was one of the best holidays we have ever had. The ski schools are great, if you progress quicker than the others in your group you can be moved up or down accordingly. Hotel was very clean, staff were polite and friendly. Food was basic but there was always something to suit most tastes, if in doubt ask the locals they are more than happy to help you pick a dish. The resort can be noisey in the late evenings but this was the only down side. There is plenty to do after skiing, outdoor ice skating, bowling, bum boarding, ringo's and skadooing.

Overall if you are thinking of going skiing for the first time this is a great place to learn.

I have been twice. First time as a complete novice.
This is a great resort if you are learning. The views are superb. The ski schools are excellent and the hire equipment is of a good standard. The pistes are generally excellent but not the longest. It is not the highest altitude resort so check the snow levels. The intermediate to advanced skier will find he/she soon runs out of pistes but, to be fair, there is always something new to find either on the slopes or just off piste. The hotels are usually very decent and to a very high standard (with friendly staff) but the food can vary and is based on the Bulgarian diet. Fine for me though.
A word of caution. If you go in the Bulgarian holidays the place floods with people who know exactly how to get to that lift gate before you. The queues are horrendous and it's every man for himself! This resort does not have a sufficient quantity of modern lifts to cope with excessive visitor numbers but copes quite well normally.
A lot of the above critisisms apply equally to many other ski resorts so don't be put off, it really is a lovely place.
One last thing. I have noticed that, since joinig the EU, prices have shot up. Only to be expected I suppose but it brings other, vastly more desirable, resorts into the cost equation.

Pamporova is without doubt the most stunning place I have visited, the people are so polite, nothing is to much trouble, I have stayed in eight different hotels and my experience of these just enhanced the whole holiday, my son and daughter learned to ski at a very young age and are now very capable, the tuition is first rate, some people complain about the food, but try the local dishes, they're super, A word of caution, get your lift passes and ski hire through your travel agents, Its miles cheaper, and quicker when you get there.
