I have been to Silver Star many times over. I love the location, the powder, the people, the Village, and everything. It is a great mountain, with great instructors and staff. I used to ski, but now I can snowboard well after just three lessons, with reasonable prices. The people who work at the lifts are very friendly, and the staff don't ever seem to mind when you ask a question. Everything about the Star is fabulous. The mountain is very family oriented, but is great for all types of people. I am definetly going back, and it is my favourite mountain I have been to.

If you are a beginner on skis and want a nice village and great place for you kids then Silver Star is for you.
If are not a beginner or are a snowboarder then there are much better places to spend your time.
Silver Star sucks if are a snowboarder because of the many flat areas. You will find yourself frequently having to unbuckle to go down a road or to a lift.
The trees have been thinned are poorly cut, there are dangerous unmarked gullies and dense brush. Roped off areas appears to be poorly planned.
The whole resort needs serious tree thinning.
I would recommend White Water in Nelson or Big White in Kelowna as better alternatives.

Found the mountain staff to be extremely helpful and friendly. My son and daughter both took lessons and couldn't say enough to describe how much fun they had while learning. The lifts lines were fast and the trails gave us lots to choose from. Over all we found silverstar to be a great family mountain.

had a great family holiday, but!!!
the pre season grooming of slopes, i.e trees cut down was way below standard and made many black slopes ans all double black slopes poor skiing.
the ski school regularly put my 16 1/2 year old into classes below his standard 'coz they refused to allocate enough instructors. - you can not combine strong level 6 skiers with mid level 5.
Even in private classes they did not allocate instuctors correctly.
We went to Silverstar after spending two days downhill skiing at Big White. This turned out to be a wonderful experience all around and left us wishing we had started with Silverstar! The dry Canadian powder was superb. We spent the first afternoon skiing with a resort "snow host" who was absolutely a great fit for our intermediate level skiing family from Texas. My 12 year old daughter made tremendous strides in her skiing on the runs our host selected for us. My husband opted to cross-country ski and thoroughly enjoyed his day. His rental was fast. My brother, my daughter and I came back for a second day of downhill skiing at Silverstar. To sum the resort up, great snow, nice long runs, short lift lines, friendly staff and the best part was the temps in the 20 degree F range. We will definitely go back!
