Spent $10,000 on a week holiday here in 2006. Chalet was great, but came for the snow. Snow...very poor, not the reorts fault, but paid top dollar for everything including lift passes, where only three major lifts were open, 3-5cm base (ice) and 3-5cm of man made snow. Base of board and skis suffered very badly. Night skiing was extra. Very poor experience. Contrary to "record snow falls" for 2007, went for a day in August 2007, it was still a poor snow cover. Will never return.

We went there in 2006, the year which Thredbo had its worst snowfall year on record. There was hardly any powder snow at all. The accommodation we had was very expensive for what we got and the ski room was very dirty. The food wasn't very good either.

Serious Australian skiers and party goers are found in winter at Thredbo. Why? Over four hundred and eighty hectares of skiable terrain and the country's most vertical (672metres) complimented with Australasia's most extensive automated snow making set up.

Add a 5.9km Supetrail, some wind lips, cliffs and tree runs off piste, a dedicated Friday Flats beginner area with extensive ski school program and seven on mountain ski in ski out cafes and restaurants.

The village of Thredbo sits at the base of the chairlifts overlooking the Snowy River and is an alpine style village with town square and loads of apres options from intimate piano bars with roaring fires till dance all night dance floors. It's the ski resort's 50th birthday in 07 so prepare for some celebrations.

Accommodation options range from cheap and cheerful ski lodge to five star ski in ski out homes and there's a leisure centre for down days.

It can get icey, but so can all resorts. Thredbo has a good mix for all levels of skier and boarder, including terrain parks, as well as something for all standards of apres goer.

Thredbo Alpine Resort is a six hour drive south of Sydney or three hours from Canberra. Cooma airport is an hour's drive from Thredbo.
