Ski school brilliant all the instructors seemed keen and helpful. The lift system is not so good only one lift to the top of the mountain and to connect to this once you are their you have to ski half way down the mountain and rejoin the main lift which is not easy in the mornings. The slopes are to steep for comfort if you have just become an intermediate. The slope back to the resort is a small narrow track from half way down and was closed in February due to lack of snow. It is also very busy for the amount of lifts and their carrying capacity. The town is a long walk down hill and is quite pretty yet the ski lift area seems more industrial looking than you would expect in an Austrian ski resort. But if its ski lessons you need then they are great.

Bad Gastein gives you direct access to 2 major ski areas and you can take the free ski bus or a €30 taxi to two others. If its busy the main lift out of Bad Gastein can be crowded and this can be a pain. The best skiing for beginner/intermediate is in the Sportsgastein 1500-2500m area which football pitch wide open reds and a fantastic blue.Plenty of variey on the slopes for intermediates and advanced.Hard for beginners as the nursery slopes are limited and hard work for beginners.
The town is pretty and has the renowned thermal spa beside the ski lift (€18 for 3 hours).Apres ski is ok.Heggbloms Swedish Bar/Silver bullet/Eden are all in a small area and are lively. The resort is popular with Scandavanians which adds flavour.

Ski Well, Stay Healthy You can enjoy the extensive 'ski circus' of slopes and lifts that connect Bad Gastein with other villages in the valley. Ski up a storm and then relax in the hotel pool. If it doesn't have one, try the popular Schwimmbad, a community pool where, according to many experts, you can heal a variety of ailments. Every pool in town has radon gas in the water. Radon frightens home owners in New Jersey, but natives here swear by it. You can also 'take the cure' by sniffing the gas in the healing caves of an old gold mine. It's a program authorized by some medical insurance companies.
