I have a season pass at Nakiska and thoroughly enjoy the mountain. Ther is a variety of terrain suitable for most skiers.

I have never seen so many TOTS (kids) packed into a dangerous turn on a black diamond run in my entire life, I am surprised no one got killed. When Nakiska is busy it is PACKED with inexperienced "family types" who think it is a picnic ground for busloads of children on challenging runs. Ridiculous. Otherwise, go during the week for plain old good views and sweet turns...conditions permitting.

Nakiska was VERY icy and not friendly at all! I didn't like it at all. There really is nothing more to say. Fortress Mnt. is way better.
Ever had an Olympic-venue mountain all to yourself? Nakiska sits in the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies and is predominantly wide, fall-line cruising with minimal crowds. You'll share Nakiska with some of the Calgary racer-types but overall you'll have this 1988 Olympic mountain to yourself. The lift system is OK, a high speed quad from the base and then a triple to the steeper upper mountain. There's excellent, wide cruisy beginner and intermediate terrain at the bottom, with steeper blues, blacks and some newer gladed areas at the top.
Nakiska is about fast cruising 90% of the time...bring your carvers and rip the smooth (and firm) groomers. But when upslope storm conditions roll in (often in March), Nakiska can get hammered with massive cold smoke dumps, while Banff and Lake Louise further west and deeper in the mountains get a few cm's. Powder days on an Olympic downhill course...good times.
The base facilities are good enough and seem noticeably empty most days.
