Cascade Village is about as close as you can stay to Durango Mountain Resort without actually being inside the ski area boundaries. Located just a mile or so north of the resort, it offers both convenience and a nice range of amenities. This includes covered parking just a few feet from one’s room, an indoor pool, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, an exercise room, restaurant, bar and small gift shop. It also operates a shuttle every half hour or so to the ski area, so you can park your car and fuget abut it.

The rooms themselves are quite nice, though they vary widely in size and quality. I had an immense king bed in a lavish master bedroom complete with a television, huge, round bath tub, separate shower and sitting area. Downstairs was a nice living room with large telly, a dining area and open kitchen complete with everything needed to cook basic meals. The kid’s room was more Spartan but had another tv, storage and two twin beds.

Built in the 1980s and since remodeled, it has tasteful furnishings and is clean and comfortable. Our unit overlooked a large snow-covered meadow and stunning views of nearby Engineer and other peaks. But, class and location has its price. Cheaper digs are definitely to be found a half hour down valley in Durango itself.
