Winter Tipping the Scales in Ohio

The combination of no snow, high expenses, a sluggish economy and very few tourists helped Balmes make it an easy decision.

Clear Fork in Ohio recently called it quits for this season, and all other ski areas in the Buckeye State remain closed waiting for snow or snowmaking weather, which may have turned for the better on Wednesday.

Snowtrails, out in Mansfield, Ohio, fired up overnight and the area is aggressively making snow. They plan to open Thursday.

Minnesota is the only state in the Midwest that has all of its ski areas reporting open.
