World Cup Weekend in Bad Gastein

By Patrick Thorne on November 29, 2006

Bad Gastein, Austria, is always a great resort to visit but there’s added excitement coming up when the thrill packed Snowboard FIS World Cup rolls in to Bad town.

World Cup arrives over the weekend of 14th to 16th December with three races including the only two Snowboard Cross contests prior to the World Championships 2007 in Arosa.
It’s the seventh season in a row that the event has been staged at the Salzburg resort with the contest last year dominated by Canadians Dominique Maltais and Drew Neilson who won the first of the two Snowboard Cross races and were placed second in the second race. Shaun Palmer was placed second in the first race.

The two Snowboard Cross races will be staged on the 14th and 15th with a Parallel Slalom event on the 16th. Austria’s will be especially keen to do well in the latter event, which will be staged ion the evening under floodlights as they’ve never won. Their best result was a second place in 2001 by current national coach Felix Stadler, then a team racer. Last year the female and male races were both won by Swiss racers, Ursula Bruhin and Philipp Schoch.
