Taos Welcomes Snowboarders

By Becky Lomax on March 17, 2008

Taos is billing their opening day for snowboarders as “the day hell froze over.”

The ski resort, which has denied access to snowboarders until this week, throws its doors open wide for riders Mar. 19. Lift tickets for snowboarders to get first tracks on opening day go on sale Mar. 18 at 3 p.m.

The celebration to welcome snowboarders continues all weekend long. Derailed, a nighttime slopestyle exhibition, features top professional and regional skiers and snowboarders Mar. 22 with a $500 cash prize for the best overall run. A torchlight parade and fireworks follow. A jam session runs 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mar. 21-22 in the Out-to-Launch terrain park.
