Echo Mountain Expands

Echo Mountain is just outside of Denver, off of the main Idaho Springs exit, off of I-70. It's about a 45-minute drive from the Mile High City. Lift tickets are reasonable for $39 a day. The slopes are open from nine in the morning until nine at night Wednesdays through Saturdays. The resort closes at 5 p.m. Sundays and Mondays. The ski area is closed Tuesdays.
The new beginner area is exceeding expectations, according Echo's Chad Lee. A handle tow, which serves about 3.5 acres. There are instructors available for skiing and snowboarding lessons.
The rest of the mountain is predominantly intermediate, with groomed runs, along with a lot of rails, boxes, jumps, and kickers. There are also some new glade skiing and riding areas.
Lee adds that Echo is family-friendly, but there is no day care provided. There is a ski school, food cafeteria and bar, along with full rentals and retail.
Season passes are are available for $279. But, if you plan ahead for next year, you can get a great deal. Season passes sold last fall started at $109. That's worth marking your 2008 calendar to get one this coming fall, should they go on sale again at bargain-basement prices.
