Texans get a great deal if they want to ski Durango this year. Direct flights are available from Dallas Love Field to Durango on Southwest Airlines. They leave every Saturday and Wednesday from Dec. 15 through March 22. Evening departure times let you get in a full day of skiing and riding on your day of departure. Lodging and airfare packages start at $382 plus tax per person with three-, four- and seven-night packages. Discounted lift tickets and airport transfers also are available. Purgatory received nearly three feet of snow from the recent big Colo. storm, with 16 inches of it coming in one night alone. The natural snow, along with cold temperatures and early-season snowmaking, resulted in a stellar opening day. Chairs one and two are running, providing access to 29 trails of all levels and 33 percent of the mountain. "Our snowmaking crews are still hard at working supplementing the huge storm and we'll open more terrain as conditions allow," Durango's Loryn Kasten tells OTS.
