Targhee Wins Approval For Expansion

By Becky Lomax on February 11, 2008

Grand Targhee dives into expansion of the resort's village.

Three years of battling with county commissioners finally resulted in Grand Targhee winning approval for expansion of the resort’s village. The resort is now poised to expand from their current 96 lodging units to 450 units.

Resort officials estimate that developing a land-use plan could take up to six months. The plan includes 45 single-family units and 45 cabins or townhomes. The remaining 360 units will be condos, condo-hotels, and employee housing. Real estate opportunities could take 9 to 18 months before they are available for release with Grand Targhee Realty at 208-354-8833. “Generations of families have honed their skiing and riding skills on Fred’s and Peaked Mountains for 38 seasons, and we look forward to enhancing the overall experience for our guests with the development of an environmentally, economically and socially sustainable resort,” said owner Geordie Gillett.

Targhee Expansion
by petem@ecomail.org | February 15th, 2008 01:43 AM

through all the turmoil that Geordie has gone through, I am happy that Targhee can expand. My first impression of Geordie is he showing up to trail work days during the summer and actually putting sweat equity into the land surrounding his resort. He could have sold his land to the Boyne or Intrawest groups who own most of the ski resorts which could have done much more irresponable developments than what Geordie has proposed. I appreciate Geordie's developments and his involvement in the Driggs community, which is on the Idaho side of development. Geordie has invested in the longterm infrastructure of his resort, where many resort investors would invest for quick returns. Geordie's longterm approach has gained the respect of the Driggs community.
Thank you Geordie,
