A reprise of the Valentines Day storm dropped a foot to a foot and a half of fresh powder on resorts all over Vermont last Friday. Mt. Snow and Stratton in the southern part of the state reported 14 to 15 inches of the white stuff while Killington piled up a whopping 20 inches on the mountain. Further north Stowe, Smugglers Notch and Jay Peak all saw dumps of 13” to 17”.

Peak Resorts, headquartered in Wildwood, Missouri, has just announced plans to purchase Attitash Mountain in New Hampshire and Mt. Snow in Vermont from American Skiing Company for $73.5 million.

In this winter of little snowfall in New England some skiers have fallen victim to the “no snow in my backyard” syndrome. Well, Mt. Snow wants to see what is in your backyard – then compare it to what’s in their backyard, i.e. on the slopes.

Australian filmmakers Jonathan Darrant and Stefan Hunt are on a quest to go surfing (the board kind, not internet kind) in all 50 states. They added Vermont to their “done” list last week after taking a few runs down the Launch Pad trail at Mt. Snow.
