With four to five inches of natural snow falling on Bryce Resort just in time for the last weekend of the season, the Virginia resort proved that it wasn’t going out without a fight. “We finished with a bang,” said general manager Sally Montrey.

Valentines Day was good to Virginia ski areas, all of which are fully open and catering to a steady tide of skiers and boarders. Bryce, Massanutten, The Homestead all report solid base levels and the snow guns have been holstered as their is ample fluff to go around.

Bryce Resort saw three and a half inches of powder fall last night padding the mountain’s already above average base. With a 57 inch base and clear and cold conditions persisting indefinitely, Bryce is sitting pretty with 100 percent of their terrain open.

While no natural snow is expected, Bryce Resort is hoping a cold front moving in today will at least drop temperatures enough to re-start their snow guns. The guns have remained dormant since early last week.

Less than favorable weather has made it slow going for much of the Mid-Atlantic resorts so far this winter. Bryce Resort has made up for it with some aggressive snowmaking and alternative activities.

Warm temperatures are making skiers squirm but Bryce Resort says Dec. 9 is the day for starters. Bryce, in the mountains of western Virginia, has seen no natural snowfall and is hoping a coming cold spell will make it possible for them to make snow.
