Taos Snowboard Dialog Heats Up

By Becky Lomax on March 3, 2008

Taos Ski Valley’s plans to open the resort to snowboarding sparked an online debate.

Taos announced that the resort is admitting snowboarders starting Mar. 19, prompting a response of bloggers. The mountain’s new snowboarding Web site (ridetaos.org) opened a blog for skiers and riders to give advice to new visiting snowboarders. Some bloggers suggested good lines, places to buy a good burger, and where you can get good lodging. But many settled into themes of “yea” or “nay.”

Many bloggers, skiers and snowboarders, thanked Taos for “seeing the light” and finally allowing snowboarders. One skier even said the mountain needed more youth to be less “frumpy.” Others voiced fears about snowboards deteriorating slope conditions and the “dirtbag” mentality they would bring. Some skiers threatened to ski elsewhere. Either way, lifts are set to haul snowboarders up the hill mid-month.

Ernie Blake's countenance will be visibally haunting when snow boarders gain access to Taos Ski Valley. In fact he would have a walleyed bitch hissey conniption fit--and that is the very worst kind.

Good job Toas. Snowboarders will only improve the atmosphere on the hill.
