Mount Kozuf Moves Forward

By Patrick Thorne on October 26, 2007

The 73 million Euros Mount Kozuf Resort is moving forward.

Progress on Mount Kozuf, a new ski resort for Macedonia, close to the Greek border, is moving forward. Some sample properties have been built and the road to the centre is currently being asphalted.

The centre is 70 kilometres (43 miles) from Thessaloniki, the port that is Greece’s second-largest city. Currently, many skiers in the region travel to neighbouring Bulgaria to ski and where ski resort development is booming.

Macedonia currently has five ski areas, Greece more than a dozen. The southern half of the historic geographic region that was Macedonia remains in Greece causing some political tensions.

The all-inclusive resort complex is located on Kozuf Mountain, situated at a level of 1500 m to 1700 m above sea level based on the Momina Cuka locality, with the mountain peak of Zelenbreg at 2208 meters and 100 meters from the Greek Border.

Mount Kozhuf is moving real fast,i can tell that coz i was there couple of days ago,and i think it will be one of the most beautifull winter resorts on the Balkans. If the snow comes in larger amounts this year in Republic of Macedonia, this will be the perfect spot for winter sports lovers.Macedonia has a big potential for winter resorts, because it`s mostly mountain country,if there where some other investments;for ex. Mount Pelister,or Mount Shara, which are the most beautifull mountians in the Balkans,Macedonia would have many tourists..but unfortunatly it hasn`t...no one can see whats in front of them, cheap and beautifull :)
