Downhill skiing is still good at the major ski resorts in northwest Lower Michigan – thanks to snowmaking. It hasn’t been the greatest winter on record, but Boyne Mountain, Crystal Mountain and Nubs Nob plan on remaining open through April 8; weather permitting of course. Right now all are fully open and in good shape.

Nubs Nob celebrates its annual Mardi Gras spring fling on Saturday, March 24 with zany games and fun for all. Events include the Soaker Cup Challenge, costume contests, Crazy Couple and Pepsi Challenge Races, and don’t miss the Petoskey Steel Drum Band on the deck with Sean and Patrick Ryan.

The annual Nub’s Nord, a Nordic festival for telemark and cross-country skiers, takes place at Nubs Nob Saturday, March 10. The event includes tours of Nordic trails, a telemark clinic, pizza party, and tele-gates race. Coming Saturday, March 17, is the 45th annual Nubs Nob Open.

Nubs Nob was not only thrilled to learn that its terrain park was rated as the best in North America, according to a recent survey; it was ranked fourth best for ski area grooming.
