After a fifth-grader has taken “The World’s Greatest Field Trip” and learned how to ski at Indiana’s Paoli Peaks Ski Area, he or she often writes a thank you note. “There’s usually some lingo that we don’t understand,” says Brandy Ream, who helps run the school program for Paoli Peaks. “But the most-popular phrase is, ‘When can we come back?’"

Peak Resorts, the Missouri-based company that operates six Heartland ski areas – two in Missouri, Snow Creek and Hidden Valley, Paoli Peaks in Indiana and three in Ohio, Mad River Mountain, Brandywine and Boston Mills – had often been referred to as the American Ski Company of the Midwest.

Cold in Indiana overnight, but we don't need to tell you that if you're living there, do we? What we can also tell you is that all that cold turned to snow for Paoli Peaks... they're reporting four inches of new stuff.

Now teachers have a reason to play hooky on Friday, at least in southern Indiana where teachers ski and ride free on Fridays at Paoli Peaks.

Nighttime temperatures are creeping lower and lower and Paoli Peaks is taking advantage of the chill night air to start making with the white stuff. The Indiana ski area is shooting for a mid-December opening day but nobody is saying exactly when they'll start to spin.
