The Lower Midwest is closed for the 2006/07 season. All across Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Missouri this past weekend was the last hurrah for ski areas scattered across the lower portion of the Heartland, and it was about right on schedule; unlike the beginning of the winter season, which was very late in starting.

This could be the last weekend of skiing for the Iowa areas. Fun Valley has been closed March 12 through the 16th and they may not be open for the St. Patty's Day weekend blasts, they're advising guests to call ahead for info before setting out.

No new snow to report but temperatures remain cool enough to hold the inch or so that fell last week and for Iowa ski areas it's business as usual. Ski Seven Oaks and Sundown Mountain are open for skiing and riding and the locals are taking advantage.
