Snowy Spain

By Patrick Thorne on March 20, 2007

After a dry early season, most of Spain’s resorts have seen increasingly heavy snow through March, three months later than hoped! Temperatures are currently low - typically -10C at the tops of the ski areas and the latest falls have taken upper slope snow depths at some Spanish Pyrenean resorts past a metre (40 inches).

Vistors to Masella can make full use of the two new drag lifts which replaced the old la Pleta lift this season. These will bring you up to the top of snowpark without getting tired. Next to the snowpark there is also a new red slalom run, also called la Pleta.

New snowmaking in the la Pleta area includes the snowpark and the snowmaking has been extended across the resort to cover the full 935m vertical with artificial snow. We have 380 snow cannons and 30 km of trails artificially snowed.

For beginners a new conveyor lift, 130m (400 feet) long, has been installed at Pla de Masella (1600m). It is very easy to use, especially if you are starting to snowboard (a conveyor belt is much easier to use than a draglift).
